Nice comeback, but now 0-7

...and the Pistons won at Philly last night so the Wizards are now the NBA's only winless team.

Next match: home, Saturday 17th vs Utah Jazz, 19.00. Per ESPN.com schedule, tickets going on StubHub for as little as $4.

It's true, at least they try.  It's better than watching Blatche and McGee and Young out there.  The guys currently on the Wiz just aren't good enough.  Can't shoot and can't rebound.  What exactly does Vesely do well?  Okafor and Booker had 15 points and 10 rebounds.  The starting big guys for the Mavs, Kaman and Brand, had 34 and 20.  So they cna't outscore them, outrebound them, or defend them - what exactly are they good for?  Seraphin is the only 4/5 with any hope of competing, even against guys that many consider to be washed up.

The two highest draft picks currently playing, Vesely and Beal, look terrible right now.  Beal at least has some hope.  The Mavs rookie 2nd round Jae Crowder had a much better game than the very highly paid Ariza who appears also to be good at something other than scoring, rebounding, or defending - what exactly, I'm not sure.

End rant.

it's a different kind of awful- Blatche and McGee and Young were comically stupid/lazy/selfish. The guys now just plain suck- the team seems to be failing at every level, the GM is just bad at his job, the coach is uninspiring, and the players are terrible. Looking at this team, does anyone start on a contender? I think you'd struggle to find more than a couple who would even sniff the end of a bench. That's the problem with this rebuild- what are you building when the guys you draft aren't good enough to be part of the goal you're building towards?

The Wizards - an entire team of 12 hard dicks to give six fouls.

NBA season is over in my mind.

Aren't you looking foward to Lebron/Wade/Bosh against Kobe/Gasol/Howard/NAsh in the finals?

It's like these 82 games don't mean crap.  Wizards are out of it less than 10 games in.  Only like 4 teams have a shot at the title.  What a joke.

to be fair the wizards were out of this season at least as early as not getting Davis in the draft

NBA has never been anything to me except for mindless fun. I don't take it seriously because the league doesn't take itself seriously. It lacks parity. There have been only 5 or 6 teams to win the title in the past 12-15 years. That's 5 teams out of 30. It's ridiculous.

They should just create a 60 team league, throw every player into a fantasy draft, and make it so cap space is easy to hit. That way everyone will be crap.

Well, those 5 or 6 good teams make the best free agency and draft day decisions in the league.

Look at the Wizards, for example. They have had shot after shot to be a good-to-elite team, and keep blowing it. From trading Chris Webber, to picking Kwame Brown, extending Arenas, and missing badly on Vesely + trading for crappy veterans, its clear long term basketball success=good front office men.

Considering theres only 2 rounds in the draft, and 15 players/team, I think the quality of the GM in the NBA is more important than in other sports.

Forgot about trading a top 5 pick for Foye and Miller - ugh, that was devastating.

:lmao: so it was the heat's 'decision' to have LeBron and Bosh sign? That's putting a lot of agency in the hands of an actor whose role appeared to be limited to saying ok

Drafted Wade, put a championship team around him, won a title, got his loyalties tied into Miami, then made a calculated choice to rid ourselves of salary before 2010.

Seems like good GMing to me.

how many other teams cleared salary and got no one that year? Put that franchise in the midwest and the big three are elsewhere, unless the GM gets credit for geography

Then why not just go to the Knicks, if its all about the city?

Riley put in place a great coach, great staff, a winning culture and drafted Wade + role players. The reason the big three are in Miami is not just the city (which, admittedly, has much to do with it) but because they trust in Mickey Arison and Pat Riley WAY more than in James Dolan, Donald Sterling, or any other similar front office guy/owner.

Lets not kid ourselves: DC is a great city, one of the best the country has to offer; I really don't think that factors into the Wizards bad circumstance. Hell, Philadelphia is a top 5 market but can't do much because they overpay for middling players (Thaddeous Young, for example.)

Clear cap, draft well, find a star.

What a joke.  What a brilliant decision - let's sign Lebron James!  Why didn't every other team think of that?

The wizards suck because Ernie is one of the worst GMs in any sport, but there are other teams that are doomed by geography in the free agent market and that just hope to get lucky in the lottery at the right time.

Sorry the Heat would rather have the slight hope of signing a superstar or two than extending an old Antawn Jamison.

The other teams that cleared the deck for Lebron? The Clippers, Knicks, Bulls. They're not looking too bad themselves lately. Add in a healthy Rose, every team there could realistically make the Finals.

The blazers and Kings almost went to the Finals a decade ago.

OKC and San Antonio seem to be doing just fine. Cleveland, when LBJ was there, attracted free agents with ease. You have a point, but it is not the end all be all.

Oh please... like The Heat selected LeBron to play there. LeBron was choosing where he wanted to go ffs, he even had LeBron hour on TV. If the Wizards offered him some humongous contract, he would've had some other team match it.

EVERY TEAM KNEW that the summer of 2010 would have 5 elite players available. GMs knew that since 2008, with additional stars hitting FA in 2011 (Melo, CP3, Howard.) Don't give big contracts to marginal players.

Then the Heat wouldv'e signed Wade, Bosh, and one of Rudy Gay/Joe Johnson/David Lee, etc etc. The Heat positioned themselves perfectly.

And all three teams will be making the playoffs this year, or latest next year, with the Cavs as a possible long term threat to the Heat.

yep, luck in the lottery had nothing to do with San Antonio and OKC, and Cleveland sure drew the super star free agents

Bosh was in the same position. He could've gone anywhere he wanted.

Well, I did say clear cap and sign FA OR draft well, didn't I?  :mg:

And San An has done a good job of attracting the right free agents there, plus keeping their own.
