I'll have to try Cassat's. The pies I had in Canberra and Sydney were closer to puff pastry.  While better than a pot pie, the Kiwi pies I have had just don't measure up. Although the availability of the kiwi cuisine pies at Whole Foods was a victory for conveniences.

We could use a couple Aussie BBQ places too.

A lot of internationals come to the DC area from May to October to work as lifeguards. They hook them up real nice with a place to stay for the duration. You should look to see if you can work that out.

This is why I always see tons and tons of Russians as lifeguards.

We get mostly eastern Europeans but we've had Brazilians, Australians and even a Japanese.

Did you bang her?

If I had, I wouldn't be saying it was maddening ;)

I made a move once but she blew me off very politely

There's no shame in striking out swinging Chief. It's the ones that strike out looking that are pathetic.

We have a free trade agreement with Australia. An expedited visa called an E3 is available.

Be prepared to pay more for groceries and have elevators close quickly. Americans are an impatient breed.
Wow, an educated response instead of random guessing!

Hey friends,
I have a question for you all.
I am contemplating coming over to the states at some stage this year, and I'm thinking of trying to get work and hang around for a year or so.
How hard is it to get work in the DC area? I have a degree in journalism but it doesn't have to be in that, I just wanted to come over, work a day job and go to nats games at night.
Any suggestions as to what I should do, and anyone wanna take in this poor young Aussie kid who hasn't experienced the life of as an American?
Thanks guys
C'mon people... THINK!  This is SO obvious...

He can get a job writing for the Washington Post...
as a FOOD CRITIC!

My daughter is in Australia now and says the prices there are atrocious, much higher than here. But she's in Townsville, and it may be regional, who knows.

Yeah. The only way my college aged daughter and her friends can stay in drinks of an evening is to find some poor Aussie saps that will buy them.

Small coffee, egg mcmuffin, that potato thing, $7.

She's living on tea because a coffee costs $5.

Sorry, I don't get the reference. The city really is called Townsville. There might be an "e" before the "s". But now that you mention it, it does sound like a made-up name.
