this isn't as bad as the loss to Philly on Monday, but it's close.  This team has checked out for the season.

Ray Knight makes me laugh sometimes.

"That's because we're not a very good hitting team."

Knight made a hell of a case tonight for firing Rick Eckstien.

Three hits in ten innings. Eleven hits in 37 innings. WTF? This is not how you want to end a season. And end the season with such poor offense knowing you will lose your best offensive guy on top of it. Next year is starting to look bleaker and bleaker. Put Zimmerman and Willingham back in but take Dunn out and you're about even. Unless we make a couple huge offensive, not defensive, signings, this is a really bad sign. I can just see Penas Mendoza line BA really improving things. Maybe two hits a game instead of three. And Jesus, the number of Ks we had was embarrassing. To lose his game against nobody Mets, limit them to one run in 9 innings, four hits total? You cannot lose that game. Not after getting 8 hits the entire series against Philly. You just can't lose this game. And we did.

On another note, Zimmermann was freaking awesome. Back to what he should be doing. Awesome way to go into next season.

the saddest part about tonight's loss is that Ron Villone's record of 17 straight scoreless innings in relief still stands.  Clippard had a chance to break it.

This is as big a problem as starting pitching, the number of easy outs on this roster.  This has to be addressed, this offseason.

Kevin Mench's presence on the roster for TWO months typifies how broken this organization is, as far as offense goes.

I've never heard of Pat Misch, so I guess that means he throws a 3 hit shutout against us.

Dang I was close.

Yeah, and how great is it this is the same day Giggles the Clown says that apparently the FO doesn't plan to go after Werth/any other FA OFers and that we can expect our OF to be the same. So let's see... Zimmerman is back, Desmond is, Espinosa is all but guaranteed. Ramos/Pudge/Flores back in some combination. Willingham/Morse/Morgan/Bernadina/Maxwell back in some combination according to Giggles. That leaves one position. First base. We lose our moat potent offensive bat, and I'd bet big money end up with Pena. So we go from 100 RBIs, 40HRs, .270BA to a .195ish BA and better defense. That's going to be the only change to the offense that is dying now, and even with Zim and Willingham had struggles? We are so screwed it isn't funny next year.

Who wants to bet this is exactly why Kasten left? The no changes to the outfield combined with losing Dunn, he knew signing one freaking SP and, oh yeah, losing Dunn = 105-110 loss season next year. And that's praying our SP doesn't implode and performa adequately. We could go past the 63 Mets if our SP is a disaster and the bullpen reverts to normal. I just hope they aren't stupid enough to dump Dunn, sign Pena and keep the OF the same, but it adds up with Kastens comments and leaving. And everything the organization is saying about focusing on a #1 pitcher and rarely mentioning the offense as a FA concern. It's going to be a long 2011.

Well Kasten said the offense was fixed... so I doubt he'd be too concerned about it if he was still here.

2 million dollar Maya sitting in AAA and not in the Majors bullpen?

2 million dollar Wang diddled around somewhere in Florida all year.

Granted on the offense comments from Kasten. Kastens sole job is PR and spinning $#!* into roses. The offense is fixed just like Dibble took some vacation time. Clearly our offense is not fixed going into next year, and without Dunn, it's going to be a nightmare scenario next season. I think Kasten's public comments aside, he's a smart guy and saw exactly what was going to happen with no intention of signing Dunn and no intention to get an offensive replacement. Our offense actually was fixed with Dunn/Zimmerman/Willingham/Espinosa/Desmond/Ramos/Morse/Bernadina. So his comment was actually correct in hindsight. It's just going to be broken beyond belief come next season without Dunn providing that potent 3-4-5 and having no legitimate leadoff guy for the second straight season, at least not one ready for 2011. Espinosa will be there eventually, not next year.
