Remember how people say Dunn is a loser for never playing in the playoffs? Was Halladay a loser before today? Is he a loser now? I can't wait until Dunn makes the playoffs and hits 3 HR in a game.

That person was Walt Jocketty, current GM of the Cincinnati Reds. In fact they repeated his statement about about getting rid of the "so what" attitude as the biggest factor in the Reds turn around.

I hope Roy Oswalt throws a perfect game. Maybe then the Nats will understand why they need better starters.

I like Halladay, but this blows. The Phillies fans are being rewarded for all their jerkness with a great ballclub and some of the best baseball moments of all time. FML.

So do you actually buy into that self-aggrandizing BS?  Or are you just "reporting"?  IMO it's asinine for anyone to claim that getting rid of Dunn contributed - in whole or in part - to turning around a franchise with a solid decade of mediocrity under its belt.  That's just the kind of logic I'd expect to hear from someone like Sportsfan.

Being a Nats fan = not allowed to recognize a great performance by a great pitcher?

I hate the Phillies too, but Halladay is undeniably a great pitcher.

thank you.  That's my point.  I hate the Philly fans, but you can't help, as a baseball fan, be in awe of guys like Halladay and Oswalt.

Um, the NLDS has only been around since 1995...

You are right, this is the 53rd post season since Larson's perfect game (one was cancelled).

So the pace is one every 53 years.

Yeah. The thing I hate is that, as terrible as their fanbase is, I actually genuinely like a lot of their players. Ugh!

I don't buy into it at all. It's like saying getting rid of Michael Jordan makes you better because will stop waiting for Mike to win the game. Remember Jocketty didn't get a whole lot for either Dunn or Griffey, it would suggest it was a way of deflecting criticism.

J.P Ricciardi suggested that Dunn didn't like baseball "all that much" when responding to why the Blue Jays weren't interested. J.P. like Keith Law is no longer in baseball.

Halladay has tormented my teams all his life but I think he is just incredible to watch. Up to 2004, I would have said the same thing about Mo.  Then Kevin Millar walked, Dave Roberts stole second, and Bill Mueller knocked him in.  I'm looking forward to our moment against Halladay. Until then, it is undeniable that he is great to watch. Just like a MIG-25. Doesn't mean I have to root for their side.

I think we should take advantage of the Rays and their economic restraints and offer two mid-level prospects (Burgess and Morris/Holder/Kobernus - while shine still lasts) for Shields and hope they bite.

i would be all over that.  everyone knows they need a 1B prospect.  if we could keep dunn, send them marrero and a morris/holder and another prospect, i would be all for it.

that hellickson kid is a stud.

I hope he really sticks it to that race-baiting (or religion-baiting, I suppose), bigot of a nag who called into that Tampa radio station.

I think Garza is the one that has been talked about being moved.  I'd take either for a couple of our prospects.

It's really a bunch of BS 99% of the time. How did getting rid of Dukes, Milledge, FLop, LoDuca help the Nats other than getting rid of their awful on-field play? We should be a good team by now according to some who believed that garbage.

Garza will cost more in terms of organizational resources.

Pick up Shields on the cheap while the getting is good.

wow this girl is crazy.  who cares if he is or isn't, he's a good pitcher and gives the rays a chance to win.  what a whacko.

and the rays fans have every right to be pissed at the owners for being cheap down there as we have the same up here with our team.  the only reason they've had success the last few years is b/c they were so awful for so many years they continued to stockpile #1 picks and what not.  i don't want to go that same route.
