About halfway through Mitch Albom's latest: "Have a Little Faith".  It's basically "Tuesday's With Maury 2", but there's still  been a lot that's made me put down the book and just think through things.  Should be done with it this week.  Gonna tackle some C.S. Lewis and a classic next.  Either "Les Mis" or "Count of Monte Christo".  Not sure which yet.

I'd recommend La Comédie Humaine by Blazac if you want to read fiction about the French Restoration.

Give CS Lewis's non-fiction stuff a shot, it's worth the read

I read the Narnia series years ago.  It's probably worth another read.  Haven't sat down with any of his other fiction stuff tho.

I'm at 40 books right now, still got plenty of time to get the other 12 in before December 31st.  Just about to go on a Joseph Wambaugh tear:

The Onion Field
The Choirboys
Echoes in the Darkness

Never read a book by him, pretty good?

I picked up Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson, since I'll be heading over there shortly (and missing much of the playoffs, :dagger:)

It depends on whether or not you like police procedurals or not.  "The Onion Fields" and "Echoes in the Darkness" are both nonfiction but the writing style is similar to his fiction work.  I really love police procedurals (both books and TV) so Wambaugh scratches a certain itch for me.

Took notes on that before moving to England. A truly genius book.

Both are really solid reads.  I'm actually about to read this once I finish with "A Pray for the City":

"Matterhorn" by decorated Marine Karl Marlantes.  Vietnam DMZ circa 1969...probably the best war novel I have read since reading All Quiet on the Western Front as a kid.

I've got The Onion Fields" to watch yet on Netflix. That's the movie of it correct?

I just read my newest issue of Hemming's Muscle Machines. Best car magazine in the world if you love American Muscle.

Yes, Song of Ice and Fire series. High fantasy but page turners at the same time. I haven't met anyone who didn't like them.

Yeah, her storyline and character became pretty infuriating.

Lots of cliff-hangers at the end in the North. Will Jon come back, that (hopefully fake) letter from Ramsay, etc.

LOL, I just realize that you could point and read spoilers. I had been dragging my mouse to highlight them.

Took notes on that before moving to England. A truly genius book.

He's hilarious. This is not disappointing so far.

I've enjoyed Bryson in the past, but I actually think you mentioned this book at some point on here and got it on my radar.

Have you read Jim Webb's "Fields of Fire"?  That's worked its way to the top of my to-do list.

This is one of my favorite war books:

I've read it several times and I know one of the people mentioned in it. I was friends with his kids and we sorta worked together. He was an Army Ranger in Vietnam, Desert Storm and was even even called upon again for the current Gulf War. He's a pretty likable dude, but I do know he could and has kill men in more ways than you or I could imagine.

Ok, so browsing reddit, I come across this AskReddit post that said "Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU?"

A redditor started posting a little short story about it, in day by day chunks here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/k067x/could_i_destroy_the_entire_roman_empire_during/c2giwm4

It's awesome, tell to me some books that are kinda like that.  Sort of alt-history type things.

And BTW, look for that story coming to a theater near you, apparently Warner Brothers has bought the rights/screenplay from the original author to turn it into a movie.
