We were so bad back then that I remember thinking, comparatively, that Jason Bergmann was good.

True dat.  I had to explain to someone the greatness of Robert Fick and Austin Kearns a couple of weeks ago.

  Didn't we have a thread called "Robert Fick flies out softly"?

Someone suggested him to represent the Nats in the ASG once.

The very same. He missed 3 seasons and came back to pitch for the angels in 2011 and 2012.

I know about Speigner, but I never saw him play. I remember thinking that Martis could be good. Woody Paige thought he could be RotY in '09. :lmao:

:lmao:  That's all that needs to be said about Woody Paige and all those jokers from Around the Horn or First Take. Most of the crap they say comes from cheat sheets their crack staff puts together for them anyway.

Franchise Fandom - Remember Miguel Batista - THE FIRST TIME?  Before he was 30?

Ted Lilly?

Mike Maddux?

Guillermo Mota and Carl Pavano when they were REALLY young?

I feel a huge hole inside me right now for all the pain I have swallowed over the years....

In fairness, Martis' first 6 games or so were pretty good.  Fell off the face of the earth pretty quick after that, though...

Anyone that looked at Martis's numbers knew the wins wouldn't keep coming.

Level 3 - Berkman swung

Level 3 - Berkman swung

don't get me started on that!

We were owed the check swing by Freese in the 9th in game 5 for how bad that call was.

Here's a question: is there any franchise today that is run as poorly as the Nats were in the first few years? Not even the Marlins, Mets, Royals, or Indians are quite on the level of the old Nats. Minnesota had equally awful pitching this year, but their lineup is solid. Colorado is the closest I can think of, but even they have good players like Tulo, Cargo, Rosario, Fowler, and guys who emerged over the season like Pacheco and Colvin.
