We're in the wintry mix band, and this is a cold-to-warm storm, so it should get better as time passes, not worse.

Tuesday night :( Already have the tickets, and they may never tour again.

Margusity is pretty good, Bastardi on the other hand.....

Margusity is now suggesting a massive ice storm from D.C. to Atlantic City, but it looks like PA/NJ will bear the brunt this time.

CWG is going along with the models that show an expanding southward freeze line:
Quote
1) The first event - late tonight into tomorrow morning - should be minor. Only very light amounts of precipitation are forecast, though we all know just a little ice can cause problems.

2) The second event - late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning - will feature heavier precipitation. However, it likely turns to rain from the District and to the southeast, with the odds of significant icing increasing as you go north and northwest toward Loudoun county in Va. and Montgomery and Frederick counties in Md., where a Winter Storm Watch is in effect. It is important to emphasize that there is significant uncertainty as to where exactly the rain/ice line will be. But it's not out of the question that colder parts of the region experience serious icing.

they are saying this could be a storm of historic proportions in the mid-west and even all the way to NYC with .5" of ice in many spots, record snows in Chicago, and general chaos all along a swath across the eastern U.S.  I'm hearing weathermen talk about this storm in ways I haven't heard since Katrina.

The weatherboy on facebook (who runs a forecasting business and is usually spot-on):
Quote
Weatherboy Weather Residents of central Indiana, central Ohio, most of Pennsylvania, and northern NJ should make preparations for a serious ice storm where 1/2"+ of ice may glaze over everything. Some people in this region may have no electrical power for a week or more as lines/limbs become overwhelmed by the weight of ice. For storm specifics by zipcode, use www.weatheronline.com

Some parts of the country will be dealt a catastrophic blow from the icestorm. Widespread damage and loss of life is likely where the ice is thickest. Can't underestimate the importance that people should take all necessary actions to protect and preserve life & property in areas where the ice storm will be worst.

The NYC area will have a substantial icestorm... with areas just north/west of town being dealt a crippling icestorm. Further north, heavy snow will fall near the capital district.

My brother just laughed at me for sending him imref's post as a weather update for tomorrow.

Ugh, Balmer is getting a lot more ice.

Its going to be so bad, govt is already allowing for unscheduled telework or leave.  Ice is solo much worse than snow!

it looks like we'll escape much of anything in virginia.   There's one more shot for another round of snow though, coastal storm developing for Saturday.

Not where I Read.  If the sleet or freezing rain isn't bad enough (warnings and watches thru noon).  Then Tues afternoon and evening the next wave is supposed to be worse.

I am in Toronto for business and playing air plane bingo trying to get home.

I threw the dice on Charlotte, NC. At least I can catch some friends assuming I depart tommorow.

Wunderground shows the forecast is much worse, at least for MD. 1/4 inch of ice overnight. Ugh. . .

Question for the weather people on this site.    What the hell is the "metro" area?    Where are the outer suburbs (PA, WV)?   What is the "viewing area"?    I think one of the things that keeps the people confused is the terminology of what defines our "area".    Hell, if you count from Breezewood to Philly to Ocean City to Richmond to Winchester as the "metro" area, you're bound to get it right someplace.   The problem is that even though there is a ton of info to be digested, no one is really sure where the hell they fit in.   I say eliminate the weather and expand sports to 15 minutes.

You are ALWAYS in the blizzard zone.  What is this, your 5th since Christmas?

My brother in Southern NH was talking about another 18" - 24".  he's run out places to pile his snow.  Hard to believe when I was there on Christmas I left early to beat the first storm (the Christmas dud for DC).

It's dryer up there, they are north of the lake effect.
