Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals: Game 1
Nationals Stadium, Washington, DC

(where Nationals baseball is just one scandal among many)
7:05 P.M. local time (6:05 P.M. houston-nat time), August 7, 2009

And now, the lineups!
Note: These are projected lineups, as the real things will not appear until several hours before gametime. The projection may or may not be a total fabrication by yours truly.
With two exceptions*, these nicknames were created with help of the Gangsta Name Generator at http://gangstaname.com/
(also deploying the P0rn Star, Pirate, Mafia, and Girlfriend Pet Name Generators)

Arizona Diamondbacks (50-59)
Stephen "Rocky Fuegobutt" Drew
Gerardo "Gunnar Hard" Parra
Justin "Hugh Nut" Upton
Mark "Humpy Peachybutt" Reynolds
Miguel "Puppy Trousers" Montero
Ryan "Sloth Buns" Roberts
Chad "The First Baseman with the .220 Batting Average" Tracy
Chris "Ham Hands Bud" Young
Jon "Spanky Harden" Garland

Washington Nationals (37-72) (but we've won 9 of our last 13!!)
Nyjer "Tony Plush" Morgan
Cristian "White Mofo Train Jumpa" Guzman
Ryan "Straight Outta Abingdon" Zimmerman
Adam "Sherman Tank Tang Chasa" Dunn
Josh "Goodass Monkey Hunta" Willingham
Elijah "Butch Slasher" Dukes
Ronnie "Cap'n Maurice Bloodbeard" Belliard
Wil "Smooth Vito Giamatti" Nieves
Collin "Luigi the Greaser" Balester

 ;)

*Actually three. One exception is obvious. Another is Chad Tracy. If you correctly guess the third non-generated nickname - which is, in fact, real - you will win a shiny new dime!

LOL I have no idea whats going on we've had 5 straight wins and every game day thread was made by a different person. I would have made one but I thought that was against the GDT rules lol.

It's kinda weird, but apparently it's the new thing? I think they switched the tradition around to see if it would make us reverse our fortunes. Here's what CMD posted an hour ago:

Someone make tomorrows GD thread, someone different.

Why do you think that Zimmerman looks like he is from Abingdon?

Exactly. What we were doing clearly was not helping the Nats win. Not only do we have a win streak but we have a revival of game day thread superstition.

Should be a great series. WSH and ARZ have bad records but have played really well as of late.

-Both teams carry a 5 game winning streak into the series.

-Nationals 10-6 over their last 16.

-Diamondbacks 11-5 over their last 16.

-Diamondbacks tied a franchise record with 21 hits last night (Thursday) in Pittsburgh.

The credit goes to Obed/Thom. He was the one who thought of this and so far its working. Keep it going!

Somebody's been doing some might fine thread splicing. I saw this show up early and imagine my surprise to discover I'd posted in it already. ;)

As a joke, I just thought it sounded like a place where lots of white people would live. I was right. According to Wikipedia, Abingdon is 94.9% white.
For what it's worth, the town where Zim was actually born is only 51% white (it's Washington, North Carolina). Our star third baseman does not, however, bear any traces of racial diversity, as you can plainly see in this photograph:

I think Balester is ready to pitch a gem. I sure hope so. Keep the streak alive. Go Bally! Go Nats!

For those going tonight - Yahoo! Weather not predicting rain tonight...which means it'll probably be raining tabbies and golden retrievers at scheduled first-pitch time and there'll be such rain delays that the match will end round 2 AM (seeing as Yahoo! Weather has been crying wolf about rain for the past two weeks and hardly ever delivering, particularly at match times - they said 90% chance yesterday).

I've started bringing my umbrella when the weather is questionable, works every time

We need Balester to go late into the game. 6 plus innings would be great. Our line up should get him some run support even with Garland on the mound.

I'm hoping Balester can give us 7 good innings.  The bullpen needs an easy night with the way they've been working lately.
