When they discussed Stanton's deal on ESPN, they mentioned this will affect Trout's next deal and....possibly Bryce Harper's deal? HAHAHAHA.

At Bryce's age, Stanton had just put up 34 and 87. In the season Bryce is entering, he put up 37 and 86 in 123 games with a .969 OPS.

How about we wait until Bryce actually puts up monster numbers before we talk about monster deals?

If you want a de-risked level of performance, you're going to pay more.

Cubs acquire Tommy La Stella from Braves.  https://twitter.com/MDGonzales/status/534096080896393216

Heyman says it may be precursor to something since they have an excess of infielders.

I'm a bit surprised that Atlanta traded him.

he also mentioned Castro being the odd man out.  Castro seems like a Rizzo guy, under control for a long time.....  Hmmmmmmmm.....

Marlins extend Stanton for 13 years, $325MM.

Jays get Russell Martin 5/82. That's a lot for a guy who won't be a catcher by the end of that deal.

That's been the standard contraxt for elite non-closer back end relievers since Houston gave that much to Brandon Lyon in 2009.

I am a sad panda today - Billy Butler to the A's for 3 years/$30M.  I thought that man would die in Kansas City with a rib in one hand and a bottle of Arthur Bryant's in the other.

Don't like that move for the A's at all.

If he rebounds then it's a steal. But I feel like the A's are type of team with ten extra Billy Butlers lying around.

He'll platoon with Moss.  They needed some righty hitting.  nice move.  He's at worst another Willingham.

Didn't realize he was only 28. He should have some decent years during the contract, but I'm not a fan of a $10M platoon player who has seen his power numbers decrease for three straight years now.

I don't think Billy Beane gave him $30M to be the short side of a platoon.

Why I said that is that Oakland is very into platooning without really thinking about the money. Who does he displace / replace full time?

Oakland has signed Pat Venditte to a minor league deal. I really hope he makes the majors. Oakland is the sort of team that may actually give him a chance.

Who do they pay $10M to? Cespedes and Crisp and neither platooned.

The Marlins have made a two-year, $20MM offer to Adam LaRoche, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Recent reports have indicated that the Marlins are strongly interested in LaRoche, and Jackson’s report would back that up, though the $20MM may be a bit light to seal the deal. I recently pegged LaRoche for a two-year, $30MM deal, and he just wrapped up a two-year, $24MM pact. LaRoche is also said to be drawing interest from the Padres and White Sox.

$30 million may be a bit high, but $20 is too low. Honestly, I think his prior deal with us is still an accurate gauge of his value.

Braves DFA'd Venters after his third TJ.  Where's Mazzone now?
