Radio-news reporter Dave Haggard tangles with Middle-Eastern terrorists as they set out to blow up Nationals Park in Washington, DC, during a sold-out baseball game.

Bottom of the ninth, game tied, Nationals at bat. If the batter hits a homer, a fireworks display will celebrate the victory. The batter sends the ball sailing into the night sky. A suicide bomber with a wireless detonator watches the ball. He’ll blow up the stadium as the fireworks start. Thus begins Detonator, the third in the Dave Haggard thriller series.

Poor terrorist waiting for one big hit as the Nationals swing wildly at everything from the 9th inning on.

Stupid terrorist guy has chosen an outcome that is supremely unlikely to occur. The chances of a walkoff homer aren't that good. He will more likely than not watch Werth, Zimm, and Desmond flail around like morons and lose the game.

Why would his decision to push the button hinge on a hypothetical situation that might not happen? And why does he have to time it along the fireworks?

It's not like people around will see it and think "Yup, those are just fireworks. No reason to be concerned. Nats Park is always a flaming fireball after a walkoff."
