Interesting changes to the AA Senators roster:

Quote
Shortstop Chris McConnell (.169 batting average in 44 games), released.

Third baseman Stephen King (.185 batting average in 47 game), demoted to Class A Potomac.

Starting pitcher Mike Ballard (1-5, 4.31 ERA), pulled from the rotation and headed to the disabled list with elbow discomfort.

Reliever Austin Bibens-Dirkx, on loan from Class AAA Syracuse for Sunday's game, shipped back to AAA.

Joining the roster:

Shortstop Zach Walters, 22, from Potomac, where he closed with a nine-game hitting streak and was batting .269 in 54 games.

Corner infielder Justin Bloxom, 24, from Potomac, where he was hitting .259 with 12 home runs in 65 games.

And pitcher Ryan Perry, 25, from Syracuse, a former first round pick (2008) of the Detroit Tigers whom Doug Harris, the Nationals' director of player development, said will move from the bullpen to the starting rotation. Perry hasn't started since his final season at the University of Arizona and is reportedly looking forward to the challenge.

Nice promotions for Bloxom and Walters. And they are moving Perry to a SP.

2012 4th Round Pick Brandon Miller with a Solo HR in his second AB tonight in his debut with Auburn.

He has intriguing power potential.

The quality of the Syracuse games broadcast have gotten much better this season.  For most of the home games last year, they used to have that one camera, up high, behind homeplate.  This season, they also have field level cameras, so it looks much more like a MLB broadcast.

wow, Steven Perez with the game winning 2-Run Triple in the top of the 9th for Auburn.

2/4 with a Triple, HR, and 4 RBIs in his Pro debut.

Auburn wins 6-5.

Xavier Paul (batting .311) hit a 2-Run HR off of Mark Prior in AAA tonight en route to a 11-7 Syracuse victory.

Prior struck out 4 in 1.1 IP but gave up the 2-Run HR.

I'm just posting to break up the SF monopoly.  I guess with the major league team doing well these days fewer people are interested in the progress of our minor league affiliates.

The interest definitely isn't there like it used to be, that's for sure. I don't even follow it as close as I used to anymore. Our system isn't as good and with the Big league team excelling a lot of the focus goes there.

yeah both good points.  there's still talent on the farm, but the bulk is years away or already here.  plus the MLB product is finally good we can talk about that more often than not (as opposed to the last 5 years where the minor league prospects were all we had).

That is basically how I feel.

I still love following the prospects, I usually come here for my news. I think the reason this thread is shorter than in year's past is the growth in number of the FTP threads- with each player personalized, there's less need to post in this thread. When 2012 draftees start signing we may see a bit of increase due to lack of FTP threads. FTP-worthy prospects are also usually quite good ("legit" prospects), and with less attention paid to lower, less "legit" prospects, the thread shortens.

Nice to see Perez start out hot. Miller too. What was his final line?

He has enormous power and a good approach. Has the potential to move quickly.

Steven Perez with an RBI Double and he is then knocked in by a Spencer Kieboom RBI Double. Auburn is actually loaded with some decent talent for a change. Should win a lot of games if they can get some pitching.

Some of us still follow the minors religiously. We just don't feel the need to obsessively post about it.

I would like to see the FTP stuff in a sub-board, like the GDTs on the main board.  A lot of them are stale, and they take up a lot of space on this board.

Ivan Pineyro a 20 year old from DR just made his stateside debut this morning in the GCL and pitched a hell of a game.

4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K

Went 4-6 with a 2.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 73 K's in 69.2 IP last year for the DSL squad.

A bit old for the GCL... but another arm to watch!

I don't follow the minors to your extent, so I like reading SF and others' comments on players that would otherwise be under the radar for me.

While it comes off as sounding negative... I didn't mean it that way.

It's good someone posts the news for casual observers to read... that's just not my thing.

What would there even be in the main section if we made a subsection for the FTP threads? :P

I'd like to see some threads on each of the teams, for one.   We used to have one from the Lake monster reporter keeping us up to date on the Vermont team as a whole.  That might be good.  We have enough guys I think who follow Syracuse, too.

NationalsPR: The Nationals tonight recalled from rehab, reinstated and optioned 1B Chris Marrero to Syracuse of the Triple-A International League.
