Growing up a Red Sox fan, initially, through the early 70's, I used to hate the O's.  Then I started to appreciate Weaver's mind games and grew to hold the O's as a legit 2d favorite by 1978 or so.  Anything to beat the NYY helped, but Weaver just seemed to be in a different league as far as managerial sharps and personality.  I still love pitching and 3 run homers, as well as

like Roenicke and Lowenstein.  RIP.

The '82 team was absurd. He Roenicke, Lowenstein, Disco Dan Ford, Al Bumbry,Jim Dwyer, Benny Ayala, Terry Crowley and Ken Singleton all season. 8 outfielders. Plus they had the incomparable Glenn Gulliver for the second half at third. Weaver used a match up outfield the way LaRussa used a match up bullpen.
