Gameday Goes Green!

And now, the lineups!
Note: These are projected lineups, as the real things will not appear until several hours before gametime. The projection may or may not be a total fabrication by yours truly.
We are celebrating Green Gameday by deploying lineup nicknames which celebrate, shall we say, different types of green-ness!

Washington Nationals (26-60)
Nyjer "The Green Wave" Morgan
Nick "Green Mountain Boys" Johnson
Ryan "It's The New Red Green Show" Zimmerman
Adam "Lean Green Home Run Machine" Dunn
[special sportsfan version: Adam "Lean Green Strikeout Machine" Dunn]
Josh "Green with Envy" Willingham
Cristian "Green Cheese" Guzman
Alberto "Bottle of Sketchy Green Ketchup" Gonzalez
Josh "Mr. Greenwrench" Bard
Jordan "The Zimmermann Telegram, Printed on 100% Recycled Material" Zimmermann

Houston Astros (43-44)
Michael "Like a Virgin" Bourn
Miguel "There Are No Virgins in Jail Cells" Tejada
Lance "Virgin's Walk" Berkman
Carlos "twitter.com/whoppervirgins" Lee
Geoff "The Virgin Queen" Blum
Hunter "Virgin Mobile" Pence
Ivan "Virgin Forest" Rodriguez
Kazuo "Who's Afraid of a Virgin Wolf?" Matsui
Wandy "Virgin Wand" Rodriguez*

*Actually, Brian Moehler is pitching. But his nickname wasn't as conducive to blatant innuendo.

(Notice Jordan's sexy green uniform!)

Two things.
1. Is it just me or do the pitchers have scarily similar stances in the above photos?
2. To be fair, Houston is one of the most environmentally friendly cities in America - or at least its government is trying. Yes, we are an oil-refinery-ridden chemical wasteland, but our city government has some really incredible green laws regarding city property and city business, and our light rail system is the most traveled rail system in the United States. (I think ten million customers in ten years, or somewhere thereabouts, and that doesn't include the hobos who don't pay.)

Hernandez and Gonzalez up the middle. YES YES

JZ could get beat today. He throws a lot strikes and the Astros are a good strike-hitting team that can single and double you to death.

Moehler shouldn't own us because he sucks but he likely will.

Stupid decision by Morgan. Giving away bases all around.

way to go gonzalez ... way to start off the inning by hurting your young pitcher.  no wonder you don't play that much.

he's just not a full time player.

Bourn has shown him up all series.

As a result, when Washington begins the second half, Gonzalez will play more frequently -- mostly at second base, Manny Acta said today.

"We want to find out about Gonzo," Acta said. "He's been hitting well over .300 since he's been called up, so we do have to find out about him."

In the first half of the season, counting today's game, Gonzalez has started 25 games -- 19 at shortstop, six at second base. Excluding a spastic stretch of errors in April, his glove has lived up to its solid reputation. And his offense? That's been the surprise. Never regarded as a strong hitter, Gonzalez now has a .327 average (52-for-156) with the Nationals, and he's slugging .462.

"He hits the ball both ways," third base coach Pat Listach said. "He hits line drives. He puts the ball in play."

Acta cautioned that Anderson Hernandez, the regular second baseman in the first half, will not be "buried" on the bench. "He's going to play, too," Acta said. "But we're just going to give Alberto more at bats in the second half than we did in the first one."

haha like its some competition.  morgan is tied for 2nd in the league in stolen bases.

and this is coming from the guy who thinks bernadina is going to be our everyday centerfielder.  :?

This is good news. He plays 2B well and has been hitting in all situations all year.

Morgan makes great catches and covers a lot of ground but he has a zilch arm.

can't hit the ball out of the infield more often that not.

solid #4-5 OFer.

the bats are going to go silent into the afternoon aren't they?

Moehller throws a bunch of bullcrap low in the zone hoping to get batters to hit weak ground balls. I'm sure we will oblige him even though we should put up double digits again today.
