I haven't personally done it, but I discussed the Surface 3 with a client of mine (thinking of getting one for the wife).  She said yes, the stand and keyboard work fine for traditionally lap mode.

I really want one but they are so pricey I can't justify it.

My wife hates her computer with a passion and all of her complaints  come down to build quality, so I figure either a surface pro or macbook

I love ExMerge. I hate ExMerge. It's complicated between me and ExMerge.

Server 2003. 32 bit. 3.5Gb RAM. A 76Gb Exchange 2003 Store.

Would anyone like to guess how many email accounts I've ExMerged in the last 7 hours?

(edit: stupid keyboard that quits responding)

Got an invite this morning to the Office for Android tablet preview.  Guess I'll get to see how it runs on my old Nexus 7 (2012).

Seems nice, haven't done much heavy lifting with it. Similar to the iPad apps with nice integration into 365/OneDrive/SharePoint

It should adopt the new OS X strategy, buy once and it will continually update for the installed device until the device is no longer supported.

I don't see how they think this will help with the mobile market.  Windows phones just font have the app support for a lot of people to consider it.  I almost would if they just had some bare necessities on the app front.

It's okay, DHS is going to keep them afloat by replacing Blackberrys with Windows phones.

People who own Windows phones swear by them. MS is trying on the app front.

By. I agree that app support is tragically bad.  But my 920 has a 40+ hour battery life if some crappily designed website isn't running ads constantly in the background draining juice. If that's happening, it only has a 20 hour life.  I don't need it for games or media. I've got a Kindle HDX for that.  Now that all said, I do have one real honest complaint with it.  My voice is deep.  Bass in a big way.  I can't talk on my phone without using speaker phone or a bluetooth earpiece because the noise cancellation blocks 80% of what I say thinking that I'm a truck passing by.

Other than that though... it's a rock solid shell that I've slammed into concrete more than once with nary a scratch, no need for so otter box giant ugly case and a fantastic integration into my company's Office 365 setup.

**Actually, I do have one gripe that really ticks me off. When I search with the phone's built in Bing interface, it doesn't credit points to my account the way it does with an android or iphone platform.  It really, really makes me angry that MS apps are better on other platforms than they are on the MS one and it's because on the others they are standalone apps versus seamlessly integrated pieces of the tech.

Does "free for the first year" imply that 10 will be subscription based?

All their SaaS offerings are killing it. Office 365 is great and they improve it every day.

Windows 8.1 is super nice and fast, Windows 10 is looking like it will be even better. Also the Surface Pro is arguably the best Ultrabook on the market.

On top of that, they are starting to support other environments by putting out sick software cross platform. Try out their iPad apps if you have a chance.

Seriously, MS has been making all the right moves for the last couple years.
