And you want to dis even the third best played on the team?

He was slotted as a second baseman...do his metrics as a second baseman and get back to me...

Danny cannot hold a candle to him with that qualification...

...and Taylor is terribly overrated...by any metric...

Escobar os never going to hit like this again. He's a .260 hitter.

Danny isn't even a .260 hitter and folks are saying he's had a great season...maybe we ought to trade him while his stock is up...

Danny has speed, power, and aruably a top 3 glove for 2B.

He's likely not to have this good a year next year, so we should trade him while he has value...

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Danny but out of the two I like his chances to repeat this season over Escobar.

Are you saying that you expect Escobars regression to be below that of Espinosas' turnaround this year?

Not really suggesting we trade either...just amazed at the logic some folks are using.

Danny is a .231 career bat.  Desmond is a career .264 bat.

Escobar is a career .279 bat and cheap for the next two years at $7MM.

So move Yunel to 2nd next year, put Anthony, a career (.275 bat) back and 3rd, and play Danny at Short or bring up the kid since everyone is sold on him without even one MLB AB.

No one is valuing him as anything other than an average starter. Danny also hits for power, something Escobar does not do. So, no speed, no power, no glove, .260 hitter.

Yunel career:   .279 / .349 / .385 / .733 with a .977 fielding average

Danny career: .231 / .302 / .393 / .695 with a .989 fielding average

But don't let the facts get in the way, Slate...

I know I'm swayed by that .364 BABIP for a fat man. Definitely balances out the lack of walks and power. You gain absolutely nothing by giving him even a single at bat in the majors.

Especially if that at bat was followed by an appearance anywhere on defense.  All of that is why my post was rather tongue-in-cheek and decidedly lukewarm.

Grace and Moore. Next.

Begs the question of why Moore is on the 25 if there are guys not on the 40 that you'd DFA him for. Those are the two I'd likely pick as well, though.  Certainly Grace.

Catching prospect Pedro Severino is indeed among Nats' Sept. call-ups, as @antoniopuesan first said. Severino, 22, known for his defense.

What precisely is their thinking when it comes to September call ups?  There should have been at least two or three pitchers that FLEW TO ST. LOUIS WITH THEM!

Nats add more Sept. call-ups to the bullpen: righty reliever Rafael Martin aka "The Mexican Assassin" and lefty reliever Matt Grace.

Why not AJ Cole? Isn't he the best pitcher above Giolito?

He's a starter not on 5 days rest. No point yet.

Martin looks good. Grace continues to struggle. Call up Harper

Bring up Giolito. Want to see the big kid at this level and he might help.

Nationals reinstate Tyler Moore and recalled A.J. Cole from Class AAA Syracuse. Cole is 5-2 with a 2.15 ERA over his last 10 starts.

I like AJ Cole for no other reason than he has the audacity to wear #69.

Sat in front of his parents a couple years ago (the year after he was traded back to the Nats) in Myrtle Beach.  They seem like nice folks.
So will root for him for that reason.  Same reason I like JZ--sat next to the folks who hosted him when he played at Potomac and they said he was the nicest young man.

I think he can be a decent starter. His number is hilarious, too.
