Terrible. Losing to Leafs at home shameful. This team is embarrassing.

no energy, no passion, crappy defense. John Carlson is a freaking dumbass loser. Just when you think he can't play any worse. Unreal.

I'm kind of optimistic. Got a lot of chances, just couldn't get it done. They're slumping. It will stop.

But Carlson sucks. Any defensemen free agents available next season?

The system seems to work. The Leafs and other oppoents have trouble getting out of their zone and into ours. However, once they do, crap goes crazy and whatever can go wrong will: bounces, miscommunication, soft goals etc.

I think they'll be fine, but they are running out of time. The worst case situation is for them to make a run and finish in ninth place. If they woke up tomorrow and traded Ribeiro while he is hot, I could get behind that. Trade some of our extra defensemen. Somebody will give us a late pick for Hamrlik or whatever. This is supposed to be a strong draft. See if you can get a couple picks in the first round. Maybe we win the lottery and get Seth Jones.  Having said that, I'd say give this another 2-3 weeks before selling out.

At least Johanson looked like he knew how to play hockey tonight. Even without the goal it looked like he had a good game, albeit clearing a low bar. Maybe other teams take for granted players that dont fumble passes.

I could use less Chimera streaking down the left and blasting sharp angle shots hide and wide and out of the zone though

Unless they pull off a miracle and make it to the ECF/SCF this season, McPhee needs to go no matter what happens. His firing/non-firing shows how much Ted cares about winning a title. If he's employed by June - barring a miracle run where this team puts it all together - Ted does not care. If he's fired mid-season or after the season, maybe Ted cares.

Though I figure if McPhee is fired another yes-man will be brought in to make sure Ted gets what he wants - ticket sales and advertising $$$.

I'm not a ted fan right now, but he will stop getting his money if the caps keep losing. We arent Toronto, who will make money regardless. Ted it staring at ovies contract. He has a lot of financial commitments to keep and winning helps pay them. Fan interest is dwindling with each loss. People will stop renewing. This year might be the tipping point where many people would have been better off ditching their ever increasingly expensive tickets and buying 24 games on stubhub.

Eh, I'm punting this season. Playing for next. Get everyone used to the system, make some small changes in the off-season, somehow infuse Ovie with the desire to work on puck handling

Being first and foremost a hockey fan (as opposed to a fan of the team), I'm just pissed that we don't get to see any western teams this year (other than Winnipeg).

But I was also one of those people certain quarters dumped scorn on for just being happy to have baseball back, even if the team sucked.

Different folks...

We'll take it.   Pens' goalie looked like a Dukie floppin' in the lane.

just another second period disaster. PK awful, and they continue to take bad penalties. You would think if you knew that your PK unit sucked that you would stay out of the box. But no

Crosby and Malkin work hard and are great players. You can see it on the ice. Ovechkin isn't in their class, not even close.

From 2011:

Quote
Ted on how he views these Capitals as a generational team with a 10 to 15 year window.

“Last year, the under-reported story of our team was how many young players joined our team, when the year before, we had the most points in the regular season and we changed things up. We probably took steps back because we brought in so many players.

“I’m sure young players will make our team this year. I do think, our young players that form our core, led by Alex Ovechkin. It’s their time now. They are not even in their prime.

“The team will make the playoffs, as I promised, 10 to 15 years in a row. There is a 10 to 15 year horizon. Woody Allen said, half of success in life is showing. Well, you’ve got to make the playoffs in order to compete for the Cup.”
