I hope the Walters kid is better than we all think he is.

Isn't he who we got for Marquis?

Yep.

Really want to see Jason Martinson get picked. Great bat for a middle infielder.

I've stopped voting.  I really don't "follow the prospects" close enough to be able to gauge them at this point.  It does strike me that we will probably get through 30 and still have guys left of the list with a few skills that could be major league level in addition to their obvious question marks. It would not surprise me if we miss a major leaguer or two. I'm not sure you could have found 30 bodies in prior years.

One more guy I'd like to add to the list is Wander Ramos... maybe at #30

Named to the GCL Post-season All-Star team

2011 Totals (21 years old)

147 AB - .313/.401/.653/1.054, 12 HR, 37 RBI

There was a year when Mike Hinckley was the teams top prospect!!  That is just a scary thought.  Peep your eyes on this top 20 list from 2006:

1. Ryan Zimmerman
2. Kory Casto
3. Bill Bray
4. Larry Broadway
5. Brendan Harris
6. Collin Balester
7. Mike Hinckley
8. Justin Maxwell
9. Clint Everts
10. Daryl Thompson
11. Josh Whitesell
12. Jason Bergmann
13. Frank Diaz
14. Francisco Plasencia
15. Ian Desmond
16. Brandon Watson
17. John Michael Howell
18. Marco Estrada
19. Edgardo Baez
20. Francisco Guzman

Bolded guys who are still in the league/saw significant action in the pros..

Did Broadway ever get a MLB AB? I remember him being talked up for years.

Edit: Answer is no.

The GCL latin kid Im curious about is Estarlin Martinez. He's 19 and has played quite a bit at 1b, 3b, LF, and RF in the GCL. Was a middle infielder before coming stateside. Where he ends up will clearly dictate his overall value, but his production at the plate is impressive.

He hit. 289/.379/.471. He had 8 doubles, 4 triples, and 6 home runs, so he's shown some extra base power, and the triples and 11 steals implies theres some speed there. The 29/36 BB/K ratio is pretty good, especially for a Dominican kid.

Jean Carlos Valdez is supposedly the one with the biggest upside, at least based on name. As an 18 year old, state side for the first time, he hit .273/.329/.371 in 37 games. Only 1 home run, but power is suppose to be his best attribute. A long way to go and not much to tell from his short stint, but he held his own as an 18 year old away from home for the first time.

I would think one of those two crack most top 30 lists by people who've actually seen them, but that is definitely speculation on my part.

Oh, and Nathan Karns could draw some consideration at this point as well. A bit old for his current status, but a big arm and had some success this year. Even if he doesn't make the list, he's still a guy that has quite a bit of potential to be a much bigger name a year from now.

Agreed on Estarlin, I've been following him statistically for a while now.  Has a very good eye for a DR prospect and makes a lot of contact.  The power has been starting to develop and with him being only 19 you could probably expect to see some more over the next couple of seasons.  Over years past, most of the even semi-interesting products from the DR academy have been 21 or older, so its good to see promising names like Martinez (19), Wilmer Difo (19), and Ivan Pinyero (19) start to trickle up.  I wouldn't be surprised to see both Wander Ramos and Martinez start the year at Auburn next season.

Also agreed on Karns.  He seems like more of a project than other prospects at this point and advanced age for his level coupled with some injuries is holding his prospect status back.  He has a really good arm, though, and is definitely a candidate for massive improvement next year.

As an aside, I could also see Jack McGeary finally putting it all together next year.  He has mostly struggled, but at times has shown flashes of brilliance and has one of the best curveballs in the system.  Command has always been his issue, maybe he gets in under "control" next season?

It'd be great to see things click for McGeary and Smoker.  Even if it is just middle relief, I like to see our high draft picks get a shot at the show so they don't think, "what if I had been drafted by a different organization."
