Pressing Questions
« Topic Start: April 07, 2008, 12:09:35 PM »
Why were Larry Broadway and Matt Hinckley and Clint Everts on BP's top 100 prospects list, he was ahead of Mark Teahen fyi. What did BP see in them? And why do we still have them? And why did they never go to the majors what went wrong?

Hinckley could never stay healthy.

Broadway is just stuck behind some good First Basemen.

Why didnt we trade broadway? Was he considered someone that could start at 1B? on a average team? And does he still have any value?

These aren't really "pressing" questions. It's pretty simple. Top prospects change from year to year because there are either better players drafted or acquired, another prospect at the same position gets better, or the ex-top prospect has a bad season or two. The BP guys aren't psychics. Some players just don't pan out.

Broadway is still only 27, but trading a career minor league 1B can't be easy. We'd have to sell his pretty good power numbers and his solid OBP. But those numbers are on a lower level, so yeah, it'd be difficult.

I'd rather keep him for depth's sake.

our future 1B (Chris Marrero) is not quite ready yet, and our Major League first basemen are Injury-prone (Nick Johnson), horribly out of shape (Dmitri Young) and old as dirt (Aaron Boone).  so it is nice to know that we've got someone in AAA that we can call up if we need him.

you don't have to always trade what you aren't using.  hoarding is a good thing at times, especially when it comes to players in the minors. too much depth is never a bad thing.

I'd like Jimenez to be the guy that we called up if something did in fact happen to NJ and Dmitri. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that, though.

It may happen if we trade Dmitri or NJ.

Broadway would get the call first if he is hitting at all.  They might not even call up a 1B at all because Boone can play first. I don't see them trading NJ or Dmitri anyways. How dumb would it be to trade NJ?  Without him in the lineup we are helpless.

I agree. Trading NJ would only hurt us and make another team better. Mid-season next year might be better timing.

I do think that Jimenez would get the nod over Broadway, though. Especially if he has the numbers again this year that he's consistently had the last few seasons.

He's already got 3 jacks for AA Harrisburg.

I feel like Jimenez is a AAAA player who would be the Winston Abreu of 1B. LeFave is intriguing to me - would be nice if Ray King did something constructive for the team.

Jimenez has two HR's.  He is a big boy but can run pretty good for his size.

Yurendell de Caster has 3 HR's for Harrisburg.  He is crushing the ball.

Harrisburg has played 4 games, so far they are 3-1.

LeFave seems like he could be decent.  Seems to have accepted the jump from low A to AA pretty well, so far.

Jimenz is a monster but he is blocked, by Chris Marrero but heck when Marrero is ready for Harrisburg why not call Jomenz to MLB or triple-a, if he goes to triple-a we would paroabably cut Broadway. If not trade Jimenz.
