What does Doug Slaten have to do to get a call-up? Another scoreless frame from him tonight.

His season numbers in AAA: 15 IP 11 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 16 K (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.80 WHIP).

He can't be any worse than Brian Bruney, Miguel Batista, Tyler Walker, etc.

I don't think he gets called up over English. I hope the team trades Burnett for a relief prospect because English and Slaten don't appear to be LOOGY and can be legitimate LH relievers.

And in Harrisburg, Matt Chico continues to impress ... tonight he went 6.1 ip, 4 h, 2 er, 0 bb, 3 k.  His ERA is @ 3.12.  Arnesen pitched 1.2 IP of shutout ball.

For Syracuse, Shairon Martis had his best outing to date ... 6 ip, 6 h, 3 er, bb, 3 k and he recorded the win.

promote Dean Weaver to Potomac :az:

12.1 IP 9 H 2 ER 0 HR 3 BB 8 K (5 Saves, 1.46 ERA, 0.97 WHIP)

We have so many silly relief prospects in our system.

Burgess through 23 games in Potomac

89 ABs: 8 Doubles, 0 Triples, 1 HR, 13 RBIs, 15 BBs, 17 Ks, 0 SBs, 0 CS (.292/.406/.416).

Obviously he isn't hitting for as much power as you would like but his BA and OBP is impressive.

i think the power will come.  obviously they tinkered with his swing a bit to not go as long and he's improving working counts and drawing walks (and cutting back the k's).  the more ABs he gets, the more he'll get used to his new approach ... which should result in more homers.

wow, 15 BB vs. 17 K?  Impressive.  I hope that's the start of a breakout season.

I don't think he is anything more than a platoon player at best. Maybe that means he fixes the Nats RF platoon!

He is actually hitting lefties pretty well this season (.364/.417/.500), but has a ridiculous BABIP of .533 in that platoon.  It looks like that will probably go down eventually, but the strange thing is that he is struggling against righties this season (.208/.344/.340), while is career line against RHP is (.262/.359/.496).  It is a small sample size and both lines will probably change greatly over the next few months, but I wonder how much his new approach will change his platoon splits in the end.

His new approach basically turns him into what Chris Marrero is now. Decent average, Decent OBP, below average Power for his raw ability. I do like that he cut down on the strikeouts, but it hurt his power. Just Imagine if Adam Dunn tried to cut down on his strikeouts and basically became Nick Johnson. Everyone would be disappointed at that because he has more talent than that.

He probably will adjust, but if we are having this conversation again in a month, then it might be time to panic.

Thanks to JMU / Potomac Cannons / HammondsNats and others.  It's a nice potential problem, with an emphasis on potential.

He's no Grant Desme, but its always hard to see a player give up the dream.  I always had big hopes for him, but he never showed much to inspire much more than that.

Too bad. Wish him well and I hope he he put his signing bonus to good use through IRA's and what not.

Hopefully he's set up to be able to do what he wants with his life... and not already broke.

The kid's not even 22, hopefully he can go back to school and get his degree.  He's got plenty of time to get things figured out.

What a freaking joke. You could tell he was never going to make it from the start when we first got him. Does not have the will power and maturity level to make it in the Pros.

It's nice to see the idiotic tripe from him in responses only due to the wonderful ignore function.

I'm randomly looking at past drafts... We could've drafted Heyward?!?!? I mean, Ross Detwiler will be pretty good here () but but, HEYWARD! Imagine if we knew we were going to have a RF problem.
