Question: how do I bookmark a page in Chrome? In firefox my bookmarks toolbar had less space (mostly because the names were longer and I just made them smaller) and now I want to add more websites to my toolbar.
Click the star in the location bar.

Star Icon on the left side of the Omnibar. (where the URL is)

You add contacts to them, or people add you. Just sent my first wave to my supervisors, trying to convince them to use it for work purposes. We'll see.

Has anyone been to the Google homepage lately?  When it loads, first you get the logo and the search box, then the other stuff at the top (Like Images, News, etc) fade in.  I've never noticed it before but then again I rarely visit Google directly and usually just search right from the browser's search box.

Code: [Select]
<html onmousemove="google&&google.fade&&google.fade()">

Yeah it's been doing that for a while.  Kind of annoying if you ask me, but whatever.  I'm like you I don't go to the actual google page that often anyway.

Has anyone else here delved into Google Friend Connect?

its kinda the same thing as Facebook Connect, only without the extra facebook crap attached. It is a direct competitor with facebook in terms of social web.

its a lot easier to implement on websites than facebook connect, but it is still rather newish in comparison and most google users dont even know about it yet, because most of them dont know about Google Profiles. If you have signed up for any google services, you have a google profile.

i havent fully wrapped my head around all the things that GFC can do yet, but i am learning.

Damn google docs is slick. I wouldn't do anything too important, but it kicks openOffice's butt for quick word processing, etc.

google docs is awesome for any typical user. power users who use every inch of their office suite everyday for serious business may need something more grand, but for a basic pc user, google docs is more than enough.

Huh?

Edit documents from anywhere...  you can email the files to yourself, FTP, whatever.  Not a Google invention.

Well yeah,, but it's much easier than uploading to FTP or emailing, then reading and find a mistake to change, then you have to email or FTP it again after you change it, plus you have to make sure whatever computer you plan to use has the software to read those types of documents (granted .doc is standard, but what if it's .docx and the machine has an older office version).

Apple didn't invent the "dap" but they made a store for it and perfected it (and have an incredible marketing team) and now nearly everyone uses an iPod.

Cloud computing is becoming more and more prevalent.  Google is a main force in that.

I also love the Lala service.  Scans my music and syncs my songs to it's library, and the ones I don't have are uploaded.  Instant streaming music portability.  There were ways before to make your music collection available anywhere, but Lala is the first I have found that makes it so easy and seamless.

I guess I just don't see Google as the innovator or perfecter here.  They are certainly one of the bigger players at this time though.

Everyone always says Chrome is faster but I honestly don't see it.  I also notice it tends to reload cached files unnecessarily often compared to Firefox (though on the other hand Firefox sometimes doesn't reload files that it should).

Chrome is still way behind Firefox in extensions even if it does have them, but I have no doubt that will even out with time.  I do like Chrome's sandboxing and process-per-tab features, but the UI could be a little bit more customizable...  the default is elegant but a bit TOO sparse for my tastes.

In the end, to each their own.

well of course they are behind in extensions. the feature is not widely available yet and firefox has a gazillion year head start in that department.

the ui is fantastic...for me. it lacks all that extra crap that i dont want.

my only gripe with the default ui is the Bookmarks menu being attached to the Bookmarks bar. wish i could drop the bookmarks bar and still have access to the bookmarks dropdown

Extensions moved from the Dev channel to the Beta channel in Google Chrome.

must mean they are close to releasing it for the masses.

there's a good bit of extensions now too.
