As it turns out, perfection would be the only way for us to have some separation in the division.

What's the point in winning every series if you're second in your division and we're a short losing streak away from being in second.

I will let you do the math - what would our record need to be in order to get that 5 game separation from the 2nd place team in the NL East?

Clippard should have had a K on the first batter who got on and gave up a bunt hit.

Dodgers Pythag is worse than the Nats so they've getting even more lucky than we have.  :stir:

Only a few who are card carrying members of the Doomsday Squad.  The rest of us can't wait for tonight's game.

i think we can all agree that our offense right now sucks, and our pitching staff is dominant.  So long as our pitching staff holds up, and there's no reason to think it won't, we're an above .500 team the rest of the way and a playoff contender (IMHO).

So you're saying that putting up an inferior product makes the person in charge cheap?

We can't freaking sweep a series to save our lives...

I take a deep breath and read this and realize how fun April has been.

I couldn't stay up and watch last nite so I got in bed with my XM radio and listened.  I kept praying the one run lead would hold but it was not to be.  Interestingly the San Diego announcers praised our starting pitchers to the hilt.  When it came to the bullpen, they said it was okay but not great.

While I still think the Nats will do well this year because of the starting pitching, trying to win with one or two runs most nights is not the best way to approach any playoffs.  We desperately need our no. 3 and no. 4 hitters back.

Didn't get to watch last nights game, but Olney said the following about it:

Quote
6. From ESPN Stats and Info, how Edinson Volquez put the San Diego Padres in a position to win:

A) He threw 20 curveballs, and Nationals hitters did not swing at any of them. That is the most pitches without inducing a swing on any pitch type since the start of the 2009 season.
B) Nationals hitters were 1-for-10 with four strikeouts in at-bats ending with his changeup.
C) Threw 50 of 96 pitches (51 percent) on the outside part of the plate, and Nationals hitters were 0-for-11 in at-bats ending with a pitch in that location.

The nats are demonstrating that we've got a good shot at making the playoffs, but we can't count on sweeping anyone.
