anyone here use Google Books? do they have FULL books, or just previews with the option to buy from elsewhere?

From what I've seen, it's like the Amazon preview. I could find every page but the 1 I needed from a particular technical book, so I had to get off my ass and go find a physical copy.

If you want to read free books, check out Feedbooks.

right. you have the "Public" or Stable version of Chrome.  it's the version that everyone downloads. you need to specifically opt to switch to the Beta channel. but it's a simple switch.  open your Chrome Browser, and go here:

http://www.google.com/landing/chrome/beta/

takes like 2 minutes to get the Beta version.

this I am not sure of. i've not had any issues downloading plugins. lemme set up my laptop and I'll check it out.

don't have windows vista, i'm on a mac so i can't get the beta version.

ah. I can't help you then. I don't know anything about Macs, or about any issues with the Mac version of Chrome.

Not all extensions are going to work for the Mac version of Chrome.  I'm not sure of the status of getting any extension support on Chrome for Mac.  I thought the Mac version was a beta version, has it gone gold now?

Because I'm sure you always boot from a CD at least once per day.

I use rEFIt anyway so I get a boot menu all the time.

Because 99% of people don't have a need to boot from a CD or DVD very often, and when they do it is not much of a hassle to just press the c key.  Besides, don't you have to hit a key to boot from a CD on most PC's?  "Press any key to boot from CD" or something similar?

Hitting the eject key that's right on the keyboard is a pain?

An EFI boot menu.  Macs don't use BIOS, they use the newer EFI "Extensible Firmware Interface" originally developed by Intel and meant to replace the older BIOS systems, but isn't used very much on PCs.  Apple has boot camp that lets you run Windows, but rEFIt allows you to run more than just one OS, such as on my machine I run OS X, Ubuntu, and Windows 7.

99% don't boot to a cd? what?

PCs that I use generally have a boot menu. You hit F12 or ESC or whatever and a menu comes up asking you what you want to boot to (CD, Internal HDD, External HDD, etc).

On Mac you have to hold down the "C" key until it comes up which is a pain and even ejecting the CD is a pain. It doesn't come out immediately after you hit the button.

Is rEFIt just for Mac? Is it free?

I don't think most users ever have a need to boot from a CD.  The only time you would do it is to install an OS, which 99% of computer users never do, they just buy a new computer, they don't upgrade. (OK, maybe less than 99% but still a vast majority)

On the PC you still have to hit a key, I don't see the big difference.  Taping a key once at the right time during boot up, or holding a key for 5 seconds.  I don't know what you mean about ejecting a CD.  On my Macs I just hit the eject key and it comes out.

Yes (I think) and yes.

:lmao: You don't get what I am saying.

YOU do it, but YOU are in the IT field and regularly do this kind of thing.

To the vast majority of HOME USERS it's a non issue.

It looks like it is a proprietary plug in from ABC rather than just something like Flash or Silverlight.  What is the episode you want to watch?  Isn't it on Hulu?

I can't really help much now but if you still have problems I'll check it out when I get home on my Mac.

Hulu for most networks just links back to the network website. Like ABC.

This is wrong.
I even went through IMDB to check:
http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi1425212441/

That's flash player, nothing proprietary.

I can watch Scrubs from Hulu on my work machine.  If I go to ABC and try it, it prompts me to install the plugin.

PatsNats, it looks like the plugin they use is called "Move" and I don't believe it supports Chrome on Windows either if I read the bug report right.

Yeah I just figured that out

Sometimes ABC.com gets the show first, other times it's Hulu. Sometimes I have to go through TV.com or IMDB.com for the link to work for shows just added. When I don't have a TV or DVR available I get antsy to watch a show. It's lame I know.

But try to watch old episodes of V - it's just links to thewb.com
