I'd much rather a starter give up a run in a 12 pitch inning, than give up none in a 26 pitch inning.
Yeah that way he could go the distance and yield 9 runs.
That's about as bad as thinking that it's better to have a 12 pitch at bat resulting in an out over a 1 pitch double.
