It was a penalty, but I'm not surprised he was given the yellow considering how often he dives. Still, terrible call.

Watching the FOX half time show and seeing it again.   You're right it is a penalty.  I wasn't aware of Bale's theatrics reputation.    I think the ref was blocked from seeing all the defensive hand action and he called the reputation.

I'm wearing out the remote switching back & forth between Arsenal/Newcastle and Spurs/Sunderland (and the Giro d'Italia in the first half)

Sounds like tomorrow's USA/Germany game at RFK is now sold out except for a few single seats up in the rafters.

Fortunately for the US the Kraut Cup is this weekend, so Gomez, Steinstager, Neuer, and various other German A-team players are with Bayern Munich and Stuttgart this weekend.

It must be just me but I simply can not get into friendly matches no matter who they play.  I'm an avid US soccer fan and ex-player but unless there is something on the line I don't tune in.

Oh, of course real qualifiers trump friendlies, but the USMNT doesn't play here all that often...plus the US only gets to play the big European sides in "real" games at most every 4 years.  This is also a key tune-up for this summer's WCQs.

And what key games they have coming up with Jamaica in less than a week.  I'm pretty damned excited for those games to start back up.

The last time the USMNT played at RFK was a qualifier against Costa Rica in late 2009...the atmosphere was incredible.  They played a friendly against Brazil at FedEx last year, but I won't go to that dump again for love or money.

Players lose and gain their spots in the national team lineup because of what they did in friendlies. Some seem to take them more seriously than early league games. That's what makes the games interesting to me.

Altidore is going to be a star. Hopefully either Crystal Palace or Hull City sign him.

That was a fun game.  Timmy got lucky a couple of times in the first half and the German goaltender had a howler or two, but three of those U.S. goals were things of beauty.  There were cars from all over the eastern U.S. and Canada parked around the stadium.

Too bad it is not part of a regular rotation.  All the worthwhile games against mexico are shipped to outposts with small stadiums like Ohio for fear of home field disadvantage.

RFK wouldnt sell out (with US fans. I;m sure el salvador would fill ir) for any other CONCACAF team would it? Did it for Costa Rica

I'm pretty sure that Costa Rica WCQ was sold out or pretty close to it (hard to tell, since it was so raucous).  Majority gringos though.
El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala would probably pack the place for home field disadvantage.  Hell, even Trinidad & Tobago brings them out by the thousands (Georgia Avenue sprouts a crapload of Soca Warriors banners & Trini flags when those guys are playing).

The only other Premier League team I can think of that he'd start on is Norwich.

Crystal Palace would probably be the best fit because they're an aggressive team. They also have the money to buy him after selling Zaha.

Big game tonight to try and differentiate themselves from the others with 7 points.  They have to get points at home against Panama.  I'm close to saying it has to be three but one keeps them right there.

What a goal!  Build up and assist was amazing.

Edit: with Mexico and CR tying 1 is sufficient but three is optimal.

Watching this and the Nats.   Mexican ref in the USA game.  I love conspiracies.   :P

I rarely argue non-calls in the box because I think PK's should be earned and not controversial.  He missed one in the first half.

Everybody agreed on that non-call.

I really wanted to see Beasley score there.  I played against his team twice at the Ft Wayne Invitational.  We took second both years to his team.  They were by far the best, most organized team I've ever playedd against.  And we played ODP teams at least 1x per year.

They've totally miked the Outlaws section.  NOWHERE is louder than RFK for internationals.
