I think the trade deadline will decide that. If we dump Dunn, Johnson, Willingham and Beimel I think we have a shot.
13 wins out of 64 games? They just aren't THAT bad

we're only 5 games off the Mets. Think about our lineup if those guys get traded. Also keep in mind that the rookie pitchers (and maybe Lannan who is only a second year guy) will begin to get shut down in September.

It won't happen. I'll leave the board for a year if it does

Even those 62 Mets managed 15 wins out of their last 64 games.  It's going to be another 14 games before they even hit the Nats current win total.  Right now I'm more curious how we fare compared to the infamous 88 Os and their 0-21 start (after 98 games the 09 Nats are surprisingly a game back from those woeful birds).

We can basically rule the Indians and everyone below them. Our competition comes down to KC and SD. KC will be tough. They actually had a decent record early on and inexplicably collapsed. The Padres might be even tougher. They already started tank mode though thankfully they kept Gonzalez and Bell.

you forget we suck and have a huge lead. If we were up by 8.5 in the division, people would be saying it was ours.

Unless we changed our name to the New York Mets midseason.

I, now, firmly believe we won't get the top pick, probably not even #2.

We've actually been decent under Riggs and we're still only at 37 wins.

Damn, Manny set this franchise so far back.

If we play .500 ball for Riggleman's entire tenure this year, we'll end up 64-98 (27-26 from here on out). But I would expect a drop-off in a few weeks.

So....
If we get overtaken by KC for the first pick, and
If we don't sign Strasburg, then

KC may end up with both Crow and Strasburg next year????

Wow

Wow

No.  they may draft them, but I'd bet the @$$#0!_$ will not actually sign with them, either.

This letting the draftee "decide" where they want to go by all this holding out is complete bullcrap.

We are now under 6 games behind the next-worst team. Nice. We throw a couple more streaks together and the Royals/Padres collapse we are in business.

They are trying to end the draft. Period.

Good players are whining about signing with bad teams. I don't give a crap. Bryce Harper wants to play for the Yankees, and only the Yankees - good luck with that, genius.

Trading draft picks isn't a solution either - look at how NBA teams get hosed, especially by international players who just hold out until their draft control expires.

A lifetime draft in MLB without tradable picks is the only way to achieve parity.

NBA teams never lose control of international players. They are under that NBA teams control forever until that player comes to America to play in the NBA.

Must be NHL? Thought that Ricky Rubio and Yi Jinlian used international play to hold out. How would that work for Rubio - is he threatening to play in Spain for the rest of his life?
