Flores out for 3 months, maybe season
« Topic Start: June 02, 2009, 05:37:27 PM »
Quote
Just got the word on catcher Jesus Flores's status. It'll be a long time before the Nats' first-string catcher -- and a big part of the future -- is back on the field.

Flores has a stress fracture in his right shoulder. The team is saying he will be out three months, maybe the rest of the season.

Flores has been on the disabled list since May 15 with a right shoulder contusion. As recently as last week ago, the Nationals were anticipating Flores to be ready within days. But while rehabbing with Class AA Harrisburg, Flores aggravated his injury, and was sent to Birmingham, Ala., for a consultation with Dr. James Andrews.

freak this crap

It's Acta's fault! Why do I get the feeling that Flores will be another of those players who can't stay healthy and we'll need to find another catcher of the future.  :?

sportsfan, things are going to be OK, eventually. In the meantime, put the weapon down and step back slowly....

Well this sucks.  Looks like we are stuck with the Bard/Nieves tandem for the rest of the season.

That sucks, but not much that can be done. He took a ball on a flukey shot right off the shoulder. Why he needed to go to James Andrews to diagnose a stress fracture is an interesting question. Certainly has nothing to do with the training staff, but I would like to think any number of qualified radiologists and doctors in the region could have diagnosed something like this earlier. Too bad he loses the development time once again.

Derek Norris. Season numbers in Hagerstown: 13 Doubles, 12 HRs, 42 RBIs, 26 BBs, 49 Ks, 3 SBs, 1 CS (.329/.417/.613).

this is horrible though. Not only do we miss Flores but we are stuck with the Nieves/Bard combo like someone mentioned. :hang:

Three months places his comeback at the start of September at the earliest. It would be best to just shut him down to make sure he is back 100% next season. (SF don't I get my avatar back tonight?)

I agree with that. What really can be gained for bringing him back that late in the season? Just let the kid rest, get his body right and bring him back next ST.

I don't see him being major league ready anytime before 2011.  He is currently 20 and in low A ball.

That's a more definitive forecast. To me if he is more than a year away I don't care because a lot can happen in that year.

He just turned 20 a few months ago and is already raking in A ball.

Should be promoted to Potomac in another month or so.

This guy hits for power, draws walks, can hit for a high average, and even steals a few bags.

Right now he is our clear Minor League hitter of the year front-runner. I'd also say that he is climbed our prospects list and into the top 3-4.

That's even more discouraging. I thought he was already in Potomac.  :?

no, he's in Hagerstown, Full Season A Ball.

Potomac is High A, players are generally in their low 20s and are much better than they are in the Sally League which consists of mostly raw players with little experience who are generally 19-low 20s.

wow we just got freaked... i agree with spidernat about his schedule, although if he can play, we might as well get him some ABs so he doesn't get too rusty.

He can just go play winter ball in Venezuela. That gives him 5 months to recover.

I'm not a real baseball expert, so I have a question.

Throw out team chemistry as a factor, how are A, Short A, and Rookie League teams compared to major conference baseball teams? Like lets say you threw the Hagerstown Suns or Vermont Lake Monsters into the SEC, ACC, or Big 12, how would they do over a full season when not counting, like I said, the benefits of team chemistry and continuity?

deal.

I think Stammen will have a good outing but I don't see many runs being scored on our side tonight. maybe a 4-2 loss
