The #Nats' lead in the NL East is down to 2.5 games, the lowest it's been since June 30.

Eh, leaving runners on base is a good thing.  Can't be too mad about this game, to be honest, except that we let Zambrano off the hook.

lol, plenty to be mad about.

Gotta sweep the Mutts, but they've got a rest day today and they'll be extra hungry for Ws after getting swept by the Braves.

Need a sweep over the Mets to ease the pain of this disaster. A sweep over the Mets would put them 9.5 games back and essentially out of the race. Atlanta is likely going to own the crappy Giants so we shouldn't expect to get any help.

we get to see detwiler tomorrow and then again on sunday, plus e-jax again (and lannan making his '12 debut).  that's four games right there that are toss ups and while dickey has sucked recently, we have to face him.

We have to face Sheets and Hanson too :hang: They better turn this around fast or we will be the ones doing the chasing and the Braves will be in first.

Lots of runners left on base means lots of runners are getting on.  Sooner or later, they're going to be driven in.  Indeed, I think they pretty much have been thus far--I don't think we're hitting appreciably worse with runners in scoring position, if at all.

I don't know what it is but this loss really bothered me.  We took a 2 to 0 lead, Jackson wasn't at his best, we had a ton of hits but stranded way too many runners, hit into too many dps, and in general, seemed out-maneuvered by the miserable Marlins. :bang:

Nats struggling vs the Fish as usual. Doing well vs rest of the division but only 4-5 vs the Marlins this season. This crap has to change, it's unacceptable.

Every time this freaking team has a chance to get to 17 games over .500 they lose. Can't get over the hump.

Read your post again and realize you're complaining about the Nats being 16 games over .500. Then, stop complaining.

Is Jackson just a more expensive lannan? He started off great, but had a terrible June and July isn't looking so good either

Perhaps it's just coincidence, but, lately, we've had a lot of instances where key moments of games have happened with Jesus Flores at-bat.  That just makes the hole in the lineup that he is look even larger.

If you can't see that the season is over, you have a real problem.

So what, 10 games ago? Wow, what a crazy stat.

There's a 17 games over .500 hump?

I thought the exact same thing...and I'm in a terrible mood now...but that little bit of info was rather pointless.

EJax throws harder, which "baseball minds" like.  He also goes further into ballgames.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I found it rare that Lannan would make it through six innings.

Hopefully Lannan makes a case with his limited chances to show, like he has in the past, that he belongs on an MLB roster next year and that he can be a productive contributor going in to the playoffs after SS is shut down.

                         IP       H      ER    BB     K     W   ERA    WHIP   K/9
Lannan 2011: 184.2   194   76   76   106  10   3.70   1.46   5.17

Jackson 2011  199.2  225   84   62   148  12   3.79   1.44   6.67
Jackson 2012  106.1    91   46   32     77    5   3.89   1.16   6.52

Lannan has never been a strikeout pitcher.  EJax is better at that, and an innings eater.
