I don't agree with this.  Even in Oblivion, the class itself really meant nothing as it was the skills you buffed and trained that defined your character.  Furthermore, almost all of the pre-defined classes were terribly constructed, so you almost always ended up going the custom route anyway.  I think it's fine that they did away with the pretense this time around.

I think it will work out fine, it just takes the fun out of pondering how I'll create my character. With the current setup, it sounds like my first character will be dictated by what I find most fun as I'm playing.
