Not to mention he's an injury risk and is prone to long periods of "don'tgiveacrapitus".

He'll fit right in with the rest of the team...

the Miami Herald says that Hanley is pissed about the prospects of acquiring Reyes and isn't open to changing positions.

Maybe the Red Sox get him back?

Funny, I think I read from Cafardo last Sunday that he was willing to move to 3d and excited about the signing.  I trust the Miami reporting more on this given Hanley's reputation.

Sure, the Red Sox would be interested and willing to put together a big deal if they had the stuff to deal.  They are a little old on the MLB roster and the minor position prospects are not ready to be major contributors.  That, and any MLB regular in a deal would open a new hole in the line up.

The Marlins offered $90MM over six years to Jose Reyes, a source told Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.  They say Reyes is intrigued by playing in warm weather and for Ozzie Guillen.  Reyes wants a contract worth a minimum of $100MM, however, tweeted Joel Sherman of the New York Post yesterday.  More from Rosenthal and Morosi...

Many in the industry are skeptical of the sincerity of the Marlins' early offers to Reyes, Albert Pujols, Mark Buehrle, and Ryan Madson, feeling the proposals are competitive but not good enough to accept.

If you buy the FG crowd sourcing, 6/ $100MM is about the guess of what it'll take.

This is closer to the Tex negotiation than the Werth neegotiation. With Tex, the initial 8 / $160MM was not enough to preempt the market, but it set the lower bound of the negotiation.  With Werth, the high offer preempted others looking for OFs, especially places where Werth might have been a better fit.

is there anywhere to see how accurate crowd sourcing has been in the past for the big names in a given year?

Dave Cameron looked at first basemen's contracts from the prior year, which was the first FG did crowd sourcing.  Cistulli in the link in Post #175 summarizes Cameron's article and links to it.
Quote
Last year’s effort was of a slightly more ad hoc nature; however, our full-time employee Dave Cameron did publish all of the first-base results together.

Below are those results (Crowdsourced Contract) along with the actual contracts received by each corresponding player. (Note that contract values are of the average-annual variety.)

Player: Paul Konerko
Crowdsourced Contract: 2.4 years, $11.0 million
Actual Contract: 3 years, $12.5 million

Player: Carlos Pena
Crowdsourced Contract: 2.3 years, $8.9 million
Actual Contract: 1 year, $10.0 million

Player: Aubrey Huff
Crowdsourced Contract: 2.2 years, $8.8 million
Actual Contract: 2 years, $11.0 million

Player: Lance Berkman
Crowdsourced Contract: 1.7 years, $7.7 million
Actual Contract: 1 year, $8.0 million

Player: Lyle Overbay
Crowdsourced Contract: 1.4 years, $4.8 million
Actual Contract: 1 year, $5.0 million

In fact, it looks like the Crowds did relatively well in this case. Aubrey Huff got considerably more than (a) our readers expected and (b) he probably should have. If there’s a pattern of any sort, it’s that the estimated annual values are slightly lower than the actual ones. The average projected annual salary among these five players is $8.3 million; the actual comes out to $9.3 million — or roughly 12% higher.

Basically, teams overpay more than a player is worth.

Isn't this the case of "winner's curse" in auctions?

I'm more curious about the bigger names because I tend to think (mindfact) most other players are paid in a more sane and predictible manner, I.e. how did the crowd do on Werth Crawford lee

Its all speculation but actually seeing the Marlins name up in discussion for Reyes AND Pujols makes me angry.
