You're quick. I guess we'll see if it's true here shortly.

If this is true, the Fish have definitely shown they're ready to stay in Miami.

Will the fans ever support enough to keep them there? Doubt it.

Highest TV ratings in the majors, I believe.

Or something to that effect.

At least for a couple of years.  They do well on the TV end of things and, if this Reyes signing happens, they'll extend their reach in the Hispanic community in MIA.  Long term success, like with the Nasty Nats, will boil down to ownership - will Loria continue his lunacy or will he be a more sensible owner?  Only time will tell.

■ MLB’s Florida teams are having a rough TV year. While ratings for the Rays (3.46) and Marlins (2.31) are in the middle of the pack, their drops from last year are significant. The Rays are down 37 percent; the Marlins are down 26 percent.

How much time do you give him? He's shown an amazing ability to spit all over an already fickle fanbase. Sure, maybe some fans will show up early this year. It won't last long. A huge percentage of sports fans in SoFla hate the Marlins and aren't going to get tricked by one year of spending.

If you need a reference point, look at the attendance for any other SoFla sports teams.

But hey, if they pony up for some superstars, maybe they can make up for attendance with TV ratings like you guys are saying, and merch sales and the such. Lots of competition for attention and dollars in Miami, though.

The city of Miami gave him a lot longer of a leash than I ever would.  I give him two years though.  If, and this is a big if, they win the WS in the next year or two and the Hispanic community there gets won over it'll work.  If not, it'll be back to empty city in no time.

Lots of competition for attention and dollars in Miami, though.

The biggest problem is that, unlike with NYC, Chicago, or DC, the weather there is nice year round so it's not just NHL vs. NFL vs. NBA vs. MLB, it's all of that vs. partying, boating, beach...etc.

I will say this about them, though. Assuming they are for real with this spending, they are opening a stadium the right way. Can't be said for the Nats a few years back.

Aaron Hill re-signs with Arizona for two years and roughly $10 million. Omar Infante seems to have set the price for mid level middle infielders this offseason.

There is a very real possibility that Houston will enter spring training with Brian Bixler having a legit shot at the starting shortstop job.

Now the Dodgers have signed Mark Ellis to a two year deal worth roughly $4.5 million a year. I suppose guys like Alex Gonzalez and Kelly Johnson can expect similar deals.

A few days lost isn't much in terms of the time required to negotiate a contact. You are making an emotional appeal at best, not a factual one. Granted I don't see the urgency of it either so long as it gets done.

"There is an expectation [the Marlins] will work something out with Reyes for something in the range of five years, $18-20MM a year," said ESPN's Buster Olney on Sportscenter.  Olney sees the Marlins as Reyes' most aggressive suitor.

I was expecting more money/years for Reyes. That doesn't seem like an offer that other teams won't top. Am I off?

Maybe he's also being paid in other things he's known to like:

he's not a power hitter and his defense at short stop will probably be fading by the end of the contract- a $90-$100 million contract is still really large

This is not too out of line with the crowd sourcing on fangraphs.  they had medians of 5.8 years and $17,4 MM  with SDs of  0.9 MM years and $2.8MM.

Not to mention he's an injury risk and is prone to long periods of "don'tgiveacrapitus".
