2011 - 12 offseason for other teams
« Topic Start: October 30, 2011, 03:49:10 PM »
Since the MLB thread is season to season, I figrued something ought to be started for other teams moves - trades, FAs not coming to Washington, hirings, firings, retirements, etc...

so, from CBS Sportsline:
Quote
News: RP Joe Nathan filed for free agency on Sunday. The Twins, who turned down his $12.5 million option on Tuesday to make him a free agent, have expressed an interest in bringing him back, and according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Nathan hasn't ruled out the possibility. But according to the New York Daily News, he also has interest in joining the Mets. "The Mets are a team on our radar for sure, but until we talk with them we can’t be sure how well we fit," Nathan said Saturday. "I know what playing in New York is about and I know how passionate the fans are about the teams they like. ... I was a Met fan growing up and my friends from the area are giving me pressure to give them strong consideration.”

Analysis: Nathan struggled in his first year back from Tommy John surgery, but he seemed to improve over the course of the season, going 11 for 11 in save opportunities with a 3.91 ERA in the second half. Though he may no longer be an elite closer at age 36, his experience in the role will likely land him a closing gig in 2012. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has already suggested the Mets will pursue a closer in free agency after Bobby Parnell failed in his late-season audition, so a move to New York would make sense for Nathan. Plan on drafting him as a No. 2 Fantasy RP.

Not a bad move by the Tribe.

Lowe to the Indians, Braves pay 10 of his 15 million dollar salary this year and in return they send LHP Chris Jones, 23 years old lefty who hasn't pitched above the Carolina League level.

$5 Million dollars for that piece of crap  is a good move? :lmao: Great move by the Braves to get rid of him. Look at the sillies they got in their rotation and in the Minors.

Atlanta has a really good GM.

Lowe might not even have made their rotation.  Getting $5 mil and a mediocre prospect for a sunk cost is pretty good return.

St. Louis declined Octavio Dotel's option for next year, giving him a chance to break the record for the most teams played for in a career.

Now that's an aspiration.

I had never heard the term "sillies" until SF used it here, and since then the only time I've ever heard it is when I inadvertently tuned in to the junkies one morning and listened for a while, then it clicked.  "SF must listen to these numbnuts and be into this crap".

I'm betting they let Buck do the GM/Manager thing.

I think they've already ruled that out. Still, I'll wager that Buck will want a great deal of influence over personnel decisions, which is possibly a reason why DiPoto and LaCava turned down their offers.

Buck is one of the people interviewing candidates to replace Andy McPhail. It shows just how freaked up the Orioles are when the field manager has hiring power over the President/GM.
