Hall of Fame Pitchers - None Since the 50s
« Topic Start: April 07, 2011, 05:00:57 PM »
Interesting little fact -

There is not one pitcher in the Hall of Fame born after the first half of the 1950s.

Here are the youngest pitchers in the HoF (and their birth year):

Dennis Eckersley (1954)

Bruce Sutter (1953)

Bert Blylevenn  (1951)

Goose Gossage (1951)

my guess is the following pitchers from the past 20 years of so will be HOF:

Johnson
Maddux / Smoltz / Glavine (pitching's tinker evers chance)
Pedro
Mo

These are the iffy ones
Mussina
Schilling
Hoffman

Clemens will be kept out due to PEDs.

Pettite and Kevin Brown will not make it. Pettite will have more support, but Brown was better.

Morris may make it on a snow ball effect.

I'll leave out anyone who has not pitched 10 years because they have not yet qualified.

There's a bias still against relievers, I think.  Holding the saves record I don't believe guarantees admission.  That's why I'm not even sure Hoffman is a lock.

Of course, Keith Foulke and Derek Lowe should be in the HOF.

They still let Bruce "No Starts" Sutter in.

Sure.

But I think it is odd that there is not one pitcher in the HoF (yet) born after 1954.

That's almost sixty years ago!

They still let Bruce "No Starts" Sutter in.

...and even he had to wait 12 years past his first eligibility.
