You want to put the guy who is barely 5'11" at first?

PRINCE FIELDER SAYS HI!!! :hurr:

Sure. Or at least let him try it out - as well as second - in the minors. That's what they are there for.

I wanted to post again on this page in agreement with slate that Jayson Werth's homer was one of the best things to happen to this team. It was one of the best moments I have ever experienced.

Prince literally can't play anywhere else. First base is that position you play when your bat is awesome, but you aren't getting the job defensively anywhere else and you're too slow to put in LF.

Sounds like Ryan Zimmerman to me.

It's been 4 years since he went a season without missing 5 or more games due to injury.

That's where you draw the line of a healthy season? 157 games? When comparing Zim with Rendon? :lmao:

I bet the Rays and some other smaller market teams would be interested in Moore.

Moore and espinosa for shields

Sounds like Ryan Zimmerman to me.

So Zimmerman's not getting the job done defensively at third base because 70% of his errors are a throwing mechanic when his fielding percentage is 96% for his career. Makes sense.

DO IT

When you have 81% more throwing errors than your contemporaries and everyone who watches you in the playoffs asks why you can't throw, yea, it might be time to consider move to first.

Oh, because people happened to finally watch our games which were broadcasted on National television? They sure see the whole sample size by watching one series! I'm glad that these people have made the executive decision to move him to first!

Honestly, if people watched him every day throughout the entire year, they'd understand why he is one of the best third baseman. I don't need stats to tell me how he's doing. Watching him play throughout the year is the only way to see Zimmerman at work. He makes plays people can't.

And those plays are countered by him throwing the ball away about 10 times a year more than the next third baseman. It all evens out, hence why he's had back to back negative UZR and DRS seasons. Couple that with a history of shoulder and throwing issues and it's pretty clear that he isn't long for the hot corner.

Anthony Rendon, OTH, has been scouted as a potential gold glover at the position.

It's completely win-win for the Nats. Zimmerman gets hurt, T-Mo plays first. Rendon gets hurt, Zim goes back to third, T-Mo plays first.

^  Agreed.

Zimmerman is the best 3B I've ever seen. But that doesn't guarantee that he will always be the same player at 3B especially with his throwing issue (and it is an issue). They need to figure out how they will move forward with this in the offseason because it may have a domino effect with the rest of the roster.

All of this is conditional on the following two things:

1. Anthony Rendon is as good with the bat we hope is.
2. The Nationals don't re-sign Laroche

I understand that it's a win-win if he moves to first... but in no way do I want to put Rendon anywhere until he proves he can play without getting injured... and he also needs to prove he can play the positions.

I just don't want to slide Zimmerman over to first with a less experienced player until he gives us a glance of it. (I know he could potentially have gold glove skills like you said)... also Zimmerman hasn't even played much of first to begin with.

Really? Zimmerman has yet to prove he can play without getting injured.

Actually his # of errors and games played in 2010 and 2012 are damn near identical.  I don't know what this means, but it's worth noting.  Seems like if his massive dropoff in UZR was because of throwing, he should have had a lot more errors.

"injured"

Sure he may not be the most durable guy, but I wouldn't compare 140+ games in 3 out of the last 4 years to the kind of injuries that cmd and others are talking about.

You play less than 158 games, it's a bum injury season.

ugh, let me clarify: I'm talking about season breaking/ending injuries.

Has Rendon had a "season breaking/ending injury?" The closest was this season and he still got back in time for the end of the season AND is currently playing in the AFL.

Maybe I'm doing what I said one shouldn't do: base a lot of my claims on a small size... but still - he's been injured in 2009, 2010 (didn't miss the year), a shoulder problem in 2011, and was out for a bit in 2012. He still played during some of this time but it just doesn't sit well with me that this young of a guy who hasn't played at all in the majors, is having an injury a year. I'm glad he came back this year and was able to play the rest of the year and AFL. It's a good sign so far.
