I'm sitting here wondering if there is gonna be a NBA Basketball Season and whether to renew my Wizards ST tickets or not? Looking at Georgetown Basketball and thinking about getting a ST for their games? Anybody else in a quantry about the upcoming Basketball season, and if there is going to be a season OR do you think they will come to terms in the 11th hour like the NFL did?
          Thoughts....Opinions?

(Note: I did not find a Wizards thread for this upcoming season -if I missed it, sorry about that, and merge this to the existing thread. Thanks.)

the bigger question with respect to the Wizards - if they do play, will anyone notice?

Kinda of like what the DC Metro population said about the Nats the last 3-4 years -eh? 95 losses or more, by the Nats, the last  3 years before this season -eh?   :mg:
Don't get me wrong, but Caps Hockey is not the only sport played in December, in DC........ :stir:

Okay, didn't understand at the time it was a joke -honestly thought I had screwed up the thread or poll in some way, and was gonna correct it -if I had. Thanks for clarification.
Yea, I know there is an NBA lock-out, believe me ....I have been pumping my Wizards sales rep for any information I can get - but they are all closed-mouth - orders from Ted and Ernie -no comments -don't want fines like before, per Ted.
Although I still think I may have screwed up on putting the poll together. But I wanted to try. So that maybe next season, I can do game threads....... :woop:      Just something for the Board members to look forward to.......   :lmao:                           :mg:

Well, we're off to a proper start - NBA just announced that the opening of training camp has been postponed indefinitely and all pre-season matches through 15th October have been cancelled (this includes a Wizards home match vs the Knicks on the 13th) - http://www.nba.com/2011/news/09/23/nba-cancels-43-preseason-games/?ls=iref:nbahpt1

I did renew my season ticket though, much earlier this year - prices (which weren't too bad to begin with at $16/fixture in the Centre Mezzanine sections on full-STH basis) are to be held for the next three seasons.

Just got a letter from the Wizards (dated this past Monday) informing STH on the monthly payment plan (similar to Nats 'Grand Slam' or Caps Power Pay) that they'll stop charging participants in this programme for now.

Couple this with Stern's statement earlier this week that they're going to start cancelling regular season matches (the full pre-season has now been scrubbed) if they don't get a deal done by this coming Monday, and it's not looking too good....

According to Michael Lee at WashingtonPost.com, this is how much the Wizards players stand to lose from the cancellation of the first two weeks of the season:

"Rashard Lewis $1,824,282.35

Andray Blatche $530,524.48

John Wall $455,418.35

Nick Young $304,364.69*

Jan Vesely $216,917.64**

JaVale McGee $202,785.80

Kevin Seraphin $138,382.59

Trevor Booker $106,640.47

Chris Singleton $105,098.82***

Jordan Crawford $92,271.53

Othyus Jeffers $87,235.89*

Hamady Ndiaye $79,377.69*

Larry Owens $79,377.69*

Shelvin Mack $40,367.76****

TOTAL: $3,712,689.80"

It won't be long before we read stories about some of them having to sell their fifth, or even fourth cars, just to make their mortgage payments!

The NHL players got taken to the cleaners when they held out. 25% pay cut. Salary cap.

I think the situations are pretty similar. Some owners make money, some lose.  Good luck NBA players. All the NBA players make money. Probably enough NBA owners do not.  They dont seem to realize that for enough NBA owners, sitting out a season or twenty is actually better than the status quo

They just drafted him.  2nd round pick.

I hope these dumbasses miss the whole season.  The system right now where there are 5 teams that matter is untenable.  Sometimes po-dunk towns get lucky with a Tim Duncan or Kevin Durant who is a really good player and not just waiting out their time until they can go to LA, New York, Miami, or Chicago.

"When will NBA negotiations come to agreement and the  Wizards Season start?"

Two different questions, likely as not the season will start a few weeks after the agreement is made, so the two events will take place in different months.  That being said, December is the answer for both.

I think there will be a season, starting in January. 50 games with 25 home games. Better later, than no season. Interesting trivia fact, as of today, the Wizards have the 5th highest sales of Full ST seats in the NBA. Amazing.........

I guess. Frankly, I don't think they should. Some are losing money whether the games are played or not.

Also think they should constrict the league and cut the number of teams that make the playoffs

I just don't think players in LA or NY should have to take a pay cut because a team on Memphis or New Orleans isn't profitable- the NBA is a good example of a salary cap without robust enough revenue sharing
