Since we're discussing charities, the Nats inspired us to donate to the District of Columbia Coalition Against Domestic Violence this year:

There is financial info on the Guidestar site:

What did it say?  I don't read the Post unless I have to.

Timely reminder!  FYI--I believe CVS is collecting for Children's at the register.

Hey Salty,

Just checking.  How's Andy doing?
Unfortunately today (Saturday)  Andy had to be readmitted to Children's. He again has a wound infection, 5 days after the discontinuance of the antibiotics. The thought is that this staph infection is not as bad as previous, it's localized to the wound site, and the body is treating Andy's sutures as foreign bodies (which they are). In essence, Andy has "an overzealous immune system" as his Dad puts it. I of course worry about Andy, but I must also admit to be concerned for his Dad and especially his Mom, who's back to living at Children's. Will keep you all posted. As always, your good wishes and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Awww.  Poor baby  :(.  Well, he's in good hands at Children's.  Maybe his Dad and Mom can alternate going home getting some rest or get a hotel or someplace near the hospital.  Do they have a Ronald McDonald House you can stay at?  I was told this too but you feel so torn "You're no good to the patient if you make yourself ill.  Get some rest"  I know its hard when you have a loved one in the hospital.

I am so sorry to hear about that!  If he needs a hematologist of any sort, I highly Dr. Greenberg.  But I will keep the little guy in my prayers.

Seeing nospin's query reminded me that I'd been meaning to ask how little cousin Andy and his parents have fared. Hope that all is well.

Andy is home and doing well. 12 1/2 lbs last I heard. While he'll need lots of close follow-up over the next years, things are definitely looking up! :)

Thanks for asking.

While beautidul to look at, if I never see another flake of snow here I'll be a happy man. I'm definitely a warm weather guy. If I want to enjoy the snow, ie cross country skiing, I want to have to travel to do so. :|

That picture was from WTOP.com.  I thought of you and how you used to have a lion as your AVI.  Interpret the picture as you wish.

It could be;  "I wish this stuff would stop!"

You two should take a cruize or something to escape the cold weather.

Good idea, but I think Mom's a bit past the cruise stage, and I've never had the desire. When I vacation I want to DO stuff, not spend the whole time traveling to do stuff.

Personally, I've never been on a cruise.  But there are activities on board.  I think you visit different places and do touristy stuff there.  It hard to travel with an older person.  I know!

Mom loves to go on cruises. She's been to the Caribbean, Alaska, Tahiti, Mexican Riviera. Now she wants to go to Europe to see Greece and Italy. But she just isn't in the shape that requires. It's a shame. Candidly, the first thing I do in the morning is check that she's still with us.
