Baseball cards

Hey,

 I introduced myself on the clubhouse forum. Im from the uk and am in dc at the moment. Im strugling to find somewhere to buy baseball cards from, can anyone help with some suggestions?

Are you looking for brand new packs of cards? Target in Columbia Heights always has loads of them. 3100 14th St. NW, right next to the Columbia Heights Metro on the Green Line.

I'm not aware of any baseball card shops or hobby shops in the area that sell other stuff, though.

Yeah, Target always has a lot.  Modell's seems to carry a decent stock too.  The souvenir shop in Nats Park probably has Nationals ones, maybe a few others.

The shop at Nats park has individual packs of the 2011 season for Topps as well as about a pack of 60 Nats cards which feature 2005-200? edition of the Nats. Got a ton of Odalis Perez cards that way.

How do I get rid of thousands of  baseball cards is what I wanna know.  Growing up I remember there being a card shop here and there..

Heeman, many of them have gone the way of the internet.  There used to be a shop in Vienna and in Centerville.  A memoribilia show may be your best bet.  There's one in October in Chantilly!

There are two card shops here and they are only a block or so apart.

They carry a lot of autographed memorabilia. Not much Nats stuff though. They did have a Ryan Zimmerman picture I was going to buy but it was sold before I got the chance.

Can anyone tell me what the Chantilly show will be like?  I've never been to one.  I'm interested in finding a Macfarlane figurine of Pudge (2005 All Star edition), and a reasonably-priced full sized baseball base display case.  I bought a Nationals base that was signed by like 20 members of the team last year; got it for $80 and then went to get a display case for it and found out that they all cost $220 or more. 

Would this sort of event have the items I'm looking for, or is it mostly just cards and batting gloves and autographed 8X10 photos?

You pay an entrance fee.  It's like one large area with table after table of dealers of all sorts of items.  Some autographed.  Some not.  Many do have cards.  Many also have Figurines but I can't guarantee you'll find the one you want.  It's not just baseball but ALL TEAM SPORTS (Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball.)  Many of the big named athletes are autographing in the back.  You have to buy an autograph ticket.  One kind for flats and balls, the other for "premium items".  Some athletes sign in the front area and proceeds from their auto tickets go toward breast cancer research.

There's a guy there whose business is called Lin Terry.  He makes beautiful displays for ALL KINDS of collectibles.  Google him.  He has a website.

Cal, you going to the one in October?  Maybe we could have a little meet up beforehand.  :)

I really like the group (CSA Shows) that puts these on, especially since they got Peyton Manning to come to town this year.  At the October show I think I'm going to Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg since I don't seem to have their auto OMLB in my collection now.

Thank you very much, CALSGR8, for all the info - especially the tip about this Lin Terry guy.  I found his site and it looks like he makes simple acrylic base display cases for $70 each, which is great 'cause it's less than what I paid for the base itself, as opposed to all the other cases that were more than 2Xs as much.  Awesome!

Picked up a couple Nats cards on ebay over the weekend.

Tyler Moore BCP138 Blue Refractor - #42/150 (Only 150 of these cards were ever printed)



Sammy Solis BCP106 autograph Refractor - #362/500 (Only 500 of these cards were ever printed)



Rick Hague BCP112 autograph Refractor - #/500 (Not sure of the serial number, but once again, only one of 500 printed)



Doubt I'll ever see a return on any of those... but it's fun to collect potential future Nationals while they're still bumming around the minors.

Those are "insert" cards.  Only 1 or 2 autograph cards in ____ packs of cards.  They are signed before the cards are put into packs.

Otherwise, no.  I rather meet the person and get an autograph.

I'm just wondering how they source the autographs- the jersey fragments in the cards were among the fakes
