I don't know about that. I don't think Dickey is the better pitcher at all, he just seems to fell into something that works and has worked incredibly hard to make it work. I don't think he's the better pitcher though.

He's the better pitcher for 2012 which is what matters in the 2012 Cy Young race.

I almost tend to the view that pitchers who are having incredibly flukily great years parlaying a weird/fringe talent into wild success deserve the award even more.

Sure, why not?  Memorable, and fun.

I don't really care who gets it. Dickey has a great story and probably deserves it the most. Gio's in line for it, and he doesn't get one this year, he - like almost every pitcher in the Nats' rotation - will have a fighting chance at the award for years to come. They're ALL nasty, and not too far along in their careers.

If the Nats win the World Series this year, none of this will matter.

Dickey shouldn't get crap. Mets stink and he's a gimmick that's having a fluke season. Gio is leading a team to their first playoff birth in team history and is having an amazing season.

Wow, can't believe Gio is pitching so well while he's pregnant!  That's definitely Cy Young - worthy.

Neither point is relevant.  Mets stink, so what? It isn't MVP, it's Cy Young.  Fluke season, so what?  The award is based on the season at hand, career at large is not a factor.

Here's how I see it: LA's Kershaw just doesn't have enuff wins, but I think he is #1 in every other category.   Gio has the wins, is among the leaders in stats, & is a feature pitcher on the best team in baseball.   Dickey has had a spectacular year, but I have him slightly behind Gio, his trump card is playing in NY.  Cueto will lose votes to teammate Aroldis Chapman. I'm curious what each has done against upper echelon lineups. WTH, I'm a homer...give it to GIO!!

I have Kershaw being the most deserving but BWAA still overvalue wins so that hurts his chances considerably. I think Gio has a shot but he doesn't quite have the innings or the story that Dickey has. Conversely Dickey isn't on a playoff team (another silly thing to evaluate a pitcher on).

Anyone else think there should be an award solely for relievers?  Call it the "Rollie Fingers", "Dennis Eckersley" or "Goose Gossage" award.

Maybe after Mo retires they will call it the Mariano Rivera award.

Not only does this award exist, but a Washington National won it as recently as 2005:

Wow, I feel dumb.  Nice to see it exists.  Should get more polpularity and the Cy Young should be limited to Starters.
