It only gets worse. Dusty wears a jacket and gloves if it's below 70 degrees.  :hysterical:

Ditto.  I used to hate the humidity but these old bones need the heat and humidity now.

First game of a co-ed rec softball league tonight. The captain is a real bum, so I may end up being a de-facto captain. If so, I'm taking the Nats approach to hitting -- dingers, dingers, dingers.

2-3 with a RBI and a K. 2 PO (1 DP). Slow-pitch is hard as a motherfreaker!

Here's a pretty good youtube channel.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChqnU1FRDDGNkf18sWpC8Yg

The guy is owns a baseball shop in japan and most of the vids have english subs that make sense most of the time. He shows a lot of vids of fixing old gloves for you guys that like to do that kinda thing and sometimes shows some really sweet custom ordered gloves by his customers and he breaks them in.

Once my glove gets sloppy and the pocket isn't to where I like it, I give it away. Usually my outfield gloves last 3 years playing spring, summer, and fall ball and my current IF glove is going on 7 or 8 years now since I play 2nd or 3rd maybe twice a season.

I'm still deciding which OF glove I want. It's down to zett, asics, ssk, and mizuno and if I order a custom glove from japan, it'll probably be ready by fall season.

If anyone is wondering which bats Rendon and Harper use, Rendon uses a JM7 (joe mauer turn) and Harper uses a CU7R (modified chase utley turn) from dove tail bats. I'm trying to find out what Murphy uses. I do know that he swings a birch bat.

Got some new gear in this past week. My pro preferred isn't in great shape and I got a new glove to replace it for the fall season. I doubt I'll own another rawlings again. While they are an american brand, none of their gloves are made in the usa any more. All their gloves, even their pro issued gloves are made in the philippines. The slcs days are long gone and rawlings needs to bring that back.

We've won 6 of our last 7 games.  We didn't win 6 games in the last two years combined...

Nice. We've had rain seemingly every week. Joining another weekly softball league though.

Finished the regular season 8-12.  Not bad after two seasons of 1-18-1 and 2-17-1.  Plus, we may have earned a bye and avoided a "play-in" round by winning our final game - we now have to root for a team to lose their game on Tuesday and we get a three game set.

A lot of fun had this season.

Nice, Mint. Sounds like it was a good year. I'm still in the "soft" league. Maybe hardball next year.

5 team league, 12 game season. Worked out that we'd be last if we lost game 12, 3rd if we won. We won. Middle of the pack. The bracket will be more generous to us.

Playoffs next weekend. Double elimination.

Our offense is worse than the Nats. Another piss poor game. I went 1-2 w/ 2 RBIs, but we only scored 7. Final: 27-7. Ouch.

Glad this GD league is over. We've had tons of rainouts and it was a FA team to begin with. Playing with a solid squad in the fall.

Sorry to hear that.  It's supposed to be fun.

We went 6-2 in our last 8 games to finish 8-12.  Moved all the way up to #7 seed but have to play a "play-in" game tomorrow night against the last place team.

Yeah, we're paying to play! The thing that gets me the most is only getting 2 ABs, either due to time or just running through the lineup quickly. I'm just hope it was because we were a FA team and that's why we sucked... Have a "Chicago-style" league that's much more fun than softball right now.

Nice job. Where are you playing on the diamond nowadays?

I technically have two teams.  The one in the younger division (30+) I mostly manage and fill in behind the plate or at 3B.  In the older division (45+) I am the only catcher on the roster.

I actually tried pitching in a bullpen shortage this season and liked it a lot.

What is "Chicago style" ball?

Good stuff. Knees must be taking a beating...

Chicago ball is a 16" ball, where you play with no gloves (the gals can, but most don't). Supposed to use a wooden bat, but we all use an aluminum. It's a good time. Definitely not competitive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16-inch_softball

3-3 with a couple steaks yesterday. Was a GD scorcher. I was pretty embarrassed though -- I lost a flyball in the sun. Rook mistake. Started the game at 1B (which was surprisingly fun), before others wanted out of the sun and I moved to OF.

So I was thinking of moving up to a 32 oz bat (for softball) and I found out that it's illegal? That's wild. I'm getting the hits but not much power. Thought bumping up would do the trick. Maybe I should just hit the gym, huh?
