A name for the new ballpark?
« Topic Start: February 25, 2007, 12:02:42 AM »
This has been on my mind for a while.  When are they going to sign a deal for naming rights to the new ballpark?  Is it because no one wants to make a deal?  One thing that bothered me was when the Mets announced their plans for a new 2010 ballpark, and got a deal done with Citibank a month later.  Anyone have any info on this?

The last article I remember reading on this was back at the end of November regarding the hiring of the Wasserman Media Group (which is one of the leaders in this) to run the auction.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/27/AR2006112701288.html

However, I don't recall ever seeing anything final regarding the deal with Wasserman. But it will be up to them to come up with the plan for handling this.

I hope who ever it is, they tag on 'park' or 'plaza' or 'field' instead of 'stadium'.  But that's just me.

no, i hate that cute "yard" and "park" crap. send that the way of the brick retros. its played out. lets stop pretending this is 1930.  "stadium" gets the job done.  or move it up to the 2000's and call it a baseballdrome

I have to agree.  I also prefer "stadium."

Even if it were to be called the Tampax flo-dome?  I think not.

I'm long on record for wanting it to be called GEICO's Junkyard.  GEICO was founded and has its headquarters in the DC area.  I'll bet there's lots of underage beer drinking going on at games, so I'd like them to have a badly mashed car near the entrance (something high schools sometimes do) to remind folks about drinking and driving.

If Geico sponsors it, we could nickname it: "The Cubical".

The deal fell through, no naming rights thing happened.

The thing is, those are generic military themes without marketing potential.  US Army Field is something that can be leveraged to improve recruitment.    In this era, follow the money.

Yeah, Dan & I goofed around on that site for a long time, just cracking up!  If you repeated click on the shower, it's really funny too.  Then in the bedroom, you can click on the clothes on the bed and make a bunch of different combos.  Then you can read his journal under the pillow, look at his appts. on his blackberry next to the mirror.  In the kitchen you can click on the cookbook (which I recommend), move the magnets around on the fridge, listen to messages on the answering machine, and blow a fuse w/ the microwave!  We just had the most fun of ages on that site!  The rug was sorta by accident.  I didn't know what would happen when I clicked it, certainly didn't expect it to become apparel!!!

LOL, not to see what "I could see" but only because the arrow turned into a hand over it.  I promise, I'm innocent!   :halo:    BTW, The rug was on the bedroom floor.
