Article V of the CBA limits the season to 183 days. Since the Nats opener was moved up to March 30, the season would end on September 28 even if the canceled game had playoff implications. The only exception is that the Red Sox and Cubs, if caught in such a situation, and it would be a home game for them, will be allowed to have split double headers, forcing the visiting team to potentially play in two cities on the same day, to complete the season (
Article V, Section C, paragraph 1(c)).
In 2004, in accordance to the then existing CBA, a game from the Cubs @ Marlins series was moved to Wrigley rather than a neutral site, and, additionally, the Cubs were granted home team status.
