second is the only position where runners routinely try to take out a fielder's legs - I'd say any other Winfield position would've preferable

Where do we put him, then?  Short is no better, and it's possible to get tangled up or dinged by a liner at first.  OF seems like the only option if we're worried about health, but then what if he can't play it?

First. Or move Zim to first and play him at third

How often does a catcher stand upright enough to get their ankles injured?

Don't want to be a negative Nelly but sometimes a really bad sprain is worse than a break. He could be out several months . We still don't know the exact location of where on the left leg it is. Is it a "high" ankle sprain? Is he our current version of Nick Johnson?

It definitely could be worse. A fracture isn't as bad as a sprain. We weren't expecting him to contribute this year anyway. This can't help his development obviously but I think he'll be fine.

It's not helping re-assure that his injuries were in the past. Third time he's had an ankle issue

Looks like this may be a chronic thing with weak ankles for whatever reason.  He might need to get to 1B or LF. Maybe DH is his eventual position.

Could be, just to limit chances for injuries but ... This occurred running the bases. He's going to be doing quite a bit of that, no matter what position he plays.

Kids gonna have to wear ankle braces from here on out. Too valuable to have this happening constantly.

I'm sure it's been covered a million times, but can this kid play LF? Seems like a safer world out there.

He's getting hurt running bases. That doesn't change with positions. :(
