The Nats have acquired Cesar Izturis from the Brewers, a source says. Mark DeRosa fighting a groin injury. Nats needed middle infield help.
Le sigh. This year, .235/.248/.333 with an OPS+ of 53 so he basically cannot be allowed in the batter's box.
Nats Acquire Cesar Izturis
Looks like a good defender and he puts the ball into play offensively. As long as he doesn't start or play a ton he is fine. Better than DeRosa.
puts the ball in play? What the freak is that supposed to mean? Who cares if in play means straight to an opponents glove?
He doesn't strike out which means he should be able to handle bat - sacrifices, bunts, etc
What did we give up? Did we just take on his salary?
Itzuris' acquisition was a straight waiver claim, not a trade, so the Nationals aren't giving up any players for him. They'll only be responsible for the remainder of his $850,000 salary this season.
