I see it more as...

2010 Nats -37
2005 Nats -18

Those 19 runs seems like a big difference to me. That'd win us a few ballgames.

This past Friday the Nats lose to a pitcher who hadn't had a win in 9 months, on the worst team in MLB...last night, they chase the winner of the last two NL Cy Youngs in the fifth and cruise to a win.

Are the Nats playing to the level of their opposition?

Uh...  potayto potahto?

This reminds me I saw a sign on the side of the road yesterday that said "Tomatoe farm"  I turned to my gf and said that's where Dan Quayle grew up when he lived in Indiana.

Yeah I wasn't sure what that was about either but I wasn't going to say anything.

Funny, he can see College Park hoodlums under every rock, but 207-190=37? 221-203=17?

Well he did mention the extra 18 runs, so that's why I didn't say anything.  Mixed up the teams and hit 3 instead of 1 maybe?

I didn't even know Beck was still alive.  Anyone special going to be there with him?

Yes, Jeff Beck is alive and well.

There is an opening act but I don't recall who it was.

but there is no Clapton or anyone like that (as far as I know) on board.

Odd. I swear the 2010 Nats said 190 - 227.

Thus, where I was getting -37 from.

i have to agree with riggleman/ray knight ... atilano really wasn't that bat last night.  dibble was killing him.  yeah i understand he didn't go deep into the game, but he had throw 76 pitches or whatever and was pulled so it's not like he threw 100 in 5.1 IP.  granted he was getting hit pretty hard in the 6th, but i thought he was pretty darn good.  oh and bernadina HAS to catch that ball.  that was LOL bad.

This is when the 2005 Nats went on their quite incredible June run, ultimately arriving at a stunning 19 games over .500 by July.  Hard to imagine after what has transpired since.

I was entertaining thoughts of posting another "virtual" division standings, but it's a lot of work to maintain.  Teams that would should be in it....

2005 Nats
2009 Nats
2010 Nats
2010 Orioles

What other team should we compare ourselves to.  1969 Nats?

2008 Tampa Bay Rays

Totally agree, he was pitching very well through 5.  But I think Riggleman had flashbacks to Tuesday when Livan lost it in a heart beat and he didn't want/couldn't stand to see that happen again.

I think Riggs was smart about it. The Giants were starting to tee off on Luis. Even the ball Roger should of caught was a line shot to deep RF.

Could he have gone 6? Sure... but the score could have also been 6-5 by the time he got out of it.

You can't put too much trust in Atilano either.  He's always capable of giving up a 5 run inning.  Throw him out there till he looks a little shaky and then bring the hook.
