We are on our way of dispelling all kinds of preconceived notions about this franchise.

Don't confuse a good series with dellusions of adequecy. We have a long way to go until we are going to compete with Philadelphia or Atlanta over the course of the season.  Hell we cannot even sustain .500 except for our inaugural season. Still lacking subtlety and nuiance I see... :lmao:

A friend had tickets through the Stroke Force / rehab group (yellow shirts) at the game, so I was in 141 today.  Werth was constantly looking up at the crowd out there.  One inning, he caught the final out and pump faked to groups of philly fans before taking the ball into the dug out.  I had such joy when Danny homered to tie it at 3, but when their crowd was reveling with Desmond at bat, and then instantly they shut up and all the Nats fans stood and screamed - it had to be one of the top moments at the stadium for me.  The HBP looked a little weird from that distance.  I could not quite see what happened (it looked like a passed ball) but then we all realized what happened and it was quite satisfying.

Enjoyable. Memorable. Exciting. Yet small sample size victories against a single opponent cannot be projected across a season. If we want to win something more than a series or two, we are going to need to upgrade the amount of talent taking the field and on the bench.

One last tidbit about yesterday.  On the replay of the HBP, there was a Nats fan in a white jersey EMPHATICALLY waving the Phillys out the gate.  NICE!!

Nats were the only local winners yesterday - Mystics got smoked at Indiana 83-51 (I think they're mailing it in now), United got clean-sheeted at KC 1-nil.

A winning, contending Nats team would really do wonders for the sports scene here.

If the Nats could get a major league marketing team and a competitive major league team on the field they could really take over some of the endless love those clowns in Landover get.

I wish I had thought to point out to the Philthy fans that they were paying for Werth's contract by showing up this weekend. I doubt they could follow that complicated a thought, though.

That's what FP kept saying on the broadcast... of course, that's a bit of a hollow victory for Nats fans.

Ah. I didn't see the first part of the broadcast (prior to the rain delay) because we went to the movies instead, and then during the later part I had the volume turned down because I got tired of hearing the Philthy fans in the background.

Yes. I saw that. One of the best scenes.

I heard that Fillies fan were singing a mournful country song all the way home: "They cut down the old pine tree". Gist of song:

There was an old, old pine tree
behind our church so green
They've cut down the old pine tree
to bury my darlin within

The Washington Nationals are winners
The Phillies are down in the dumps
The Old Fox's team of beginners
Lets Cronin calls Fillies "the chumps"

Note: The Old Fox is Clark Griffith, our founder. Joe Cronin was manager of The Nats "Wrecking Crew of '33", last Washington pennant winners. Original lyrics modified to fit the crest-fallen Fils.

I don't think they'd take any of it over, just get added to the fold. I agree though, if the Nats win a WS or at least start making the playoffs, they'll get all the fans they can handle.

Well our current win percentage is .488 so you might want to rethink that.
