They're now 9th in runs per game (4.1), just slightly under the NL avergage (4.2).  Just above league average in OPS, again 9th at .719.

Morse and Zim hitting make a HUGE difference. With them, we're a just-below-average offense. Without, we're horrific.

Really, they are mostly working off a lousy April on all those rate stats. Per Fangraphs:

Month by month:
                April          May              June
Runs    74 (14th)  118 (9th)       116 (9th)
OBP  .304 (11th)  .320 (11th)    .308 (12th)
SLG  .328 (16th)  .447  (3d)       .429 (6th)

Pretty amazing to think the squad could have three 15/15 guys in Desmond, Espinosa and Harper.

Desmond (15 HR/ 9 SB)
Espinosa (7 HR/14 SB)
Harper (8 HR/8 SB)

I would say 20/20... but I'm not confident Desmond will run enough or that Espinosa/Harper will reach 20 HR's.

Sorry I haven't updated the numbers for a while, been a lot busier with "IRL" stuff.

Not good enough. What could possibly be making a plastic dinosaur in a plastic trash can busy?

Who is going to be the leadoff guy when Werth comes back?

Funny you should ask:

Adam Kilgore ‏@AdamKilgoreWP
Davey says if Espinosa continues his improvement hitting lefty, he'll probably be the full-time leadoff man when Werth gets back.

It would have to be a pretty significant improvement for me to feel good about this... but I guess we'll see. He certainly seems to have taken to the leadoff spot when he's gotten the start there against righties.

MLB Stat of the Day ‏@MLBStatoftheDay
The Nationals have at least one extra-base hit in all 84 games they have played this year, the only @MLB team to do so.

So the Nats basically have a league-average offense now and still have the best pitching in the league.  Not a bad formula.

So at what point do you start training Stras to play 2B for days when he isn't pitching?

He'd be a better pinch hitter than Derosa or Nady.

It's weird. He's in great shape, but a complete plodder. Built to be a pitcher. That being said, they could use this September to experiment. Got to bury the Braves, first.

Team OPS is up to .734 - the highest point it's been so far this year.

On June 23, it was .693.

Since May 1

4.5 Runs/game
.266/.323/.442/.765 OPS

In July we are averaging 5.1 runs/game, .802 OPS, 84% SB rate

Nats now 4th in run differential on the season.  2nd in the NL.  Only 4 runs behind the Yanks who currently lead the Mariners so those haven't been added in yet...

Pennant-winning formula, actually.  That's a team built to win in October - claw out enough runs to let the dominant pitching win.  It works so long as we stay at the mid-point or higher.
