End of Season Awards
« Topic Start: September 13, 2012, 05:36:48 PM »
Here's my non-scientific guess as to what we might win:

NL Cy Young - Gio
NL ROY - Harper, but it's going to be very very close
SS Silver Slugger - Ian Desmond (Currently leads all shortstops in average and WAR, trails Hanley in HR/RBI
1B Sliver Slugger - LaRoche leads all NL 1B in HR/RBI, but trails in slugging percentage, average, and most other categories
1B Gold Glove - LaRoche has a shot, but slightly trails Cliff Carlos Lee in FP and has two more errors
Manager of the Year: Davey

IMHO, Davey and Desmond are locks for their respective awards. I think Harper will win ROY.  NLCY goes to Cueto.  I don't think LaRoche comes home with any hardware.

There's no way Hanley Ramirez wins the SS Silver Slugger.  Zero.

He's a 3rd baseman this year.

Can Strasburg win Silver Slugger for pitchers?

That's what I was thinking.

Also I'd be disappointed if Davey doesn't get the NL MOTY award. He's right in line for it.

And it'd be interesting to see if Harper does get that ROTY award. We'll just have to see how he does over the last month, won't we.

It's either Strasburg or Leake:

Leake: .286/.298/.429, 2HR, 6R, 3RBIs
Strasburg .281/.333/.426 1HR, 4R, 7RBI

well stras has a significant lead when it comes to OBP and RBIs so i'd have to give him the edge

Davey Manager
Desmond Silver Slugger
LaRoche, Espinosa Gold Gloves

I don't think Harper wins, sadly. But he does have a month to keep being hot and seize the crown.

Strasburg should be a candidate for the MVP. I mean Verlander won it and rarely ever had to take an at bat. Strasburg is the prototypical "two-way" player.

You can't be the MVP if you don't make the playoffs.

Darwin Barney deserves the GG over Espinosa. He's had a fantastic season with the glove.

desmond should win a gold glove too.  I can't think of any other NL shortstop who has done as well defensively.
Zimm also deserves a gold glove too.

John Lannan voids your arguement

Maybe in a future season when he pitches to his potential.

Jimmy Rollins will get the NL GG, 30 more games than Desmond, 2 less errors, highest fielding percentage of any SS.  Desmond ranks 8th in fielding percentage ahead of only Starlin Castro.  He's having a great year compared to his last two, but he's still not an elite defensive SS.

LaRoche has a great shot at NL Comeback Player of the Year.

Zimm also deserves a gold glove too.

He makes the tough ones, but too many errors on routine throws.
