Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst
Clubs pursuing Mike Adams say he could sign in next couple of days. Among teams linked to him: Nats, Jays, Phillies, Rangers, Cubs, Brewers

He would be a nice addition to the bullpen.  He had a bit of a rough year last year but his numbers outside of Texas were still good.  For his career, he's been good against lefties and righties.  Not sure if last year was a Texas ballpark thing or if he's starting to wear down with age.

Philly is supposedly really interested.  Not sure he would do well in that ballpark though.

i would happily take Mike Adams.  Especially if that means it's one less chance for HRod to get anywhere near the nats.

Pass on high priced relievers.  Especially older ones coming off down years.

His numbers outside of Texas were very good.  2.05 ERA.  I wouldn't want to give him huge money but he could be a valuable piece at the right price

Mike Gonzalez came on a minor league deal, I think.  It definitely wasn't a big money deal.

If that's true, then it's possible he isn't washed up.  He's in his mid 30's though and relievers generally don't have careers that long.

Would love Adams. He was a stud in San Diego and we need to improve the bullpen somehow.

That's the important thing to me- maybe worth a flier,  but not worth counting on

He was also a stud in year one with Texas. Looks like an injury shortened season, though.

Adams had thoracic outlet surgery at the end of the season.

Right, but he got a huge deal a couple years back and then kinda disappeared.

If Adams comes on a minor league or 1 year major league deal, then that's fine.  But I wouldn't give him 3 years and 15 mil.

He won't cost 3/$15mm but he certainly won't accept a minor league deal.

i know its a long shot, but.... Rendon/Clippard/Morse for Trumbo?

Unfortunately the Angels really need a starter and we don't match up well with them, but either Trumbo or Bourjas is likely to get traded now.

I would not give up our best prospect for a guy with a career .302 OBP.

Why do we need Trumbo? Where are we going to play him?

They need pitching. While Rendon would be interesting, they are in win now mode and need another 2/3 starter

Trumbo would play 1st.   He's a Rizzo-type guy, cost controlled for a long time.  Yes, his OBP is low, but he raised it from .291 to .317 and he's still only 26.  Over the next 4 years he should be a pretty solid hitter.

Again, I know there's no way of it happening unless as you say we have a 3-4 starter we could deal.

I think Morse could put up the same numbers as Trumbo next year.  I'm also not sure we'd want 1st base tied up for the next 3-4 seasons.  I guess we could always flip Trumbo later if we did trade for him, though.

When Trumbo is on, he can hit the ball a mile.  He's like a Right Handed Dunn, or closer to a Hondo.  He plays THE WORST defense though.  Morse in left looks good next to him.  I think the team is leaving the IF situation somewhat open depending on how things shake out within the next year.  Assuming everything goes to plan, the Nats have some combo of Espinosa, Desmond, Zimmerman and Rendon out there everyday.  Rendon is a prospect who hasn't shown that he can be healthy, yet.  Danny needs to shorten up a bit and remove holes in his swing.  If these options don't pan out, Moore is probably the cheapest and best in house candidate so far for the 1B job.  If not him, maybe Skole but he is somewhat old for the level right now.

I don't see the Nats trading or signing a FA 1B unless it's LaRoche and it's for three years max.

Trumbo is a poor man's Dunn with about half the walk rate and a little less strikeouts. I'd rather stick with Morse and see what Rendon does with a full season. Angels need a top of the rotation starter. Maybe, MAYBE, if Detwiler pitches better than last year, we could offer him up. But that's really doubtful. They probably wouldn't settle for anything less than Zimmermann.

I think it is safe to say neither of Zimmermann or Detwiler are going anywhere.  There are no immediate replacements for those pitchers and they are still controllable and cheap.  I say that Moore may give you the same production as Trumbo, and again the Nats don't have to trade for him and he is controllable and cheap.

If I were Rizzo and the Angels called me asking Trumbo for Zimmermann I would instantly hang up. Trumbo for Detwiler I would think about but most likely I would hang up too.
