100 wins watch - now with poll!
« Topic Start: July 27, 2012, 12:37:22 PM »
Do you think they can reach 100 wins with the light 2nd half schedule? Right now, the Nats are on pace for 97.5 wins. They need to go 41-23 the rest of the way to reach 100 wins.

With Strasburg getting shut down, I don't think it'll happen, but I'm really happy with 90-95 wins, so whatever.

BP projection is 94.3, for whatever that's worth.

They've got a shot, especially with the "soft" schedule coming up.  If they kill it the next couple of weeks, they can give themselves a chance.

I say this every time it comes up, but Strasburg getting replaced with Lannan will likely result in a difference of 1-2 wins at most. It's not like we'll suddenly be below .500 on the month of September because Strasburg stopped pitching.

Oh, I only think it'll be a 1-2 win difference, too.  But then I'm expecting the Nats to lay off a little bit once they wrap up the NL East, so I don't think they'll really chase the 100-win mark.

Depends on how much they value the best record in the NL.

Well...yeah I definitely don't expect a chase for 100. It is kinda awesome to think of facing off against our division as a chance to pad the win total rather than this terrifying gauntlet where we'll get buried in the standings, though, isn't it? I'd like to see something like 94, but 91 should be enough to take home the division. For the Braves to win 92 they'd have to go 38-26; for us to win 92 we'd have to go 33-31.

Depends on how much they value the best record in the NL.

It would allow them to face the WC winner a day after the one-game playoff.

And if last year's arrangement stays the same, it would also allow them to pick the NLDS schedule that best suits their needs, i.e., they could pick the schedule that gives them an extra day off and go with a 3 man rotation. That would help with Stras unavailable.

I wouldn't even want 100 wins this year.

That point has been constantly overlooked.

John Lannan won us a big game Saturday. No reason we can't trot him out in September and have a chance at him winning some games.

I don't see why not. They need 41 more wins to get to 100. I just looked at the remaining calendar and counted just what they would need to win each series (and to tie each 4 game series - I didn't count the 4 gamers to win) and got 38 games out of the remaining 64 games. So if they sweep a few series or win those 4 gamers yeah they'll get to 100. Oh this doesn't account for losing any series.

The player interviews I've heard on the WJFK "Nats On Deck" pregame shows, all the players are "having fun" this season in and around the clubhouse. Some of the veterans and guys who have been on winning ball clubs have mentioned that having fun with each game and not seeing it as "work" or worrying about where they are in the standings is a big factor for a winning team.

Easily, assuming Werthless doesn't ruin the vibe with his cranky ass.  Don't mess with the Nasty Nats.

Who? Oh Yeah Werth... Um where is he going to play now? I think he should stay as a bench player, use him in later innings to pinch hit.

He was in the dugout pretty much every home game until last week, I'm pretty sure.

They need to go 53-11 to do it.... totally doable, right?!

He wasn't in the batter's box watching strike three fly by though.  Quite a difference.

Sorry but it is inconceivable that we will finish the season winning all remaining series. We will lose several series, and probably get swept a couple times ... and still end up with 90-95 wins.

Just win the NL East, and go on to win the pennant.

32-31 would be disappointing the rest of the way.  37-26 would be pretty solid.  39-24 would be fantastic.

I guess, but I have a hard time thinking they are going to keep up this torrid pace.

I don't think they're going to play at a pace win 8 of 11 the rest of the way, but I wouldn't be shocked if they keep on doing what they've been doing in terms of winning series and playing steady ball.  If they keep doing what they've been doing, and since they've literally been doing it all year long, I don't see any reason to expect them to suddenly fall off.  If they keep playing at this .595 clip the rest of the way, that puts them at 37-26 and with the series of sub .500 teams on the schedule, I wouldn't be shocked to see them exceed that by a couple of games.  I think 95 wins is a pretty reasonable expectation for this team at this point.
