Thanks, everyone.

If you missed today's flight, you may get one more chance on Monday if the weather permits, depending on which runway is in use: The same Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (NASA 905) will depart Dulles Monday morning with Enterprise on her back to fly to JFK Airport in New York, where Enterprise will eventually be transferred to a barge to be taken to the Intrepid Museum for display on the aircraft carrier's main deck.

Here's one more. It's the same picture as one of the ones in the set I already posted, but because they're all 3504 x 2336 and thus too big to upload at actual size, I copied out a 1024 x 768 portion showing just the shuttle and NASA 905 so I could upload an actual-size image of the shuttle.

I would have liked to have seen it too, but you have to admit these pics are probably better than anything you would have seen in person.

Thanks, but no, pictures just don't do it justice. We've all seen 747s many times, but seeing one with a space shuttle on top of it is unique.

Nice pictures, I'm jealous of my wife- her whole office took a 'field trip' to the water from in old town to see it

Well, I posted the information about there being another flight Monday with a different shuttle, though all the details aren't set. Departure is to be Monday morning sometime between 9:30 and 11:00, according to the Intrepid's website.

NASA posted this picture:

Good location for a posed picture involving famous aircraft, such as this one from May 24, 1976:

But it's a damn shame that in the post 9-11 world the observation deck at the main terminal is closed. I guess the tower at Udvar-Hazy is a bit of a replacement.

That Concorde pic is awesome.  Remember when people would pay ridiculous sums to fly the Concorde at subsonic speeds on the Braniff leg from Dulles to Texas?  Crazy.

Google "boeing dream lifter" if you want to see an ugly 747.

sigh...

here's a pic.  the guy who built it sent a letter of apology to the 747 lead designer for ruining his airplane.

it's a custom built 747 designed to carry wings for the 787 dreamliner from Asia to assembly plants in the U.S.

So you are saying you can get that fat from wings?  I'd better watch out for that next time they are half price at CCSP.
