The Rockies have a winning swagger. The Nats don't. We know we are beaten before we even take the field.

It's official.  I hate the Rockies.  I wish them nothing but luck and misfortune.

...hate them more than the Phillies!  >:(
They already have enough luck, they don't need more.

that poor call by the ump completely changed the game but we didn't score nearly enough runs anyways.

we would have had to shut them out.

No wins since the Stras signing. We have to win tomorrow night to usher in the Stras era.

 Dibble.

I've always wondered why our relievers dabble with so much off-speed stuff when they come in the game in late innings.

A lot of the guys in our pen have good fastballs but all of them with exception to MacDougal like to throw a lot of off-speed crap which doesn't make any sense to me.

it's embarrassing that we haven't won a game this week. while things are going great off the field, on the field there is still the glaring reminder that we are by far the worst team in the Majors and have a long way to go to build a respectable team.

This was a death by a thousand cuts series and, cumulatively, those are worse than being blown out for three games.

And that's why I hate the Rockies.

missed the whole game until I got home and turned it on only to see Dukes weekly tap out to the pitcher, get him off the team.

Dukes has been pretty terrible this year - almost ready to advocate signing a RF in the offseason.

As if a backup plan is a bad thing. Sign or trade for one and let them compete for playing time. Make sure he can play LF as well in case Willingham's back regresses.

Wait, what? I thought Dukes turned the corner. Was it the wrong street?

[...]Burnett took a couple of more shots at the Pirates organization.

...well they are rather assailable...they're headed for a MLB-record 17th straight losing season.

Honestly during the Marlins and Diamondbacks series Dukes was hitting the ball to all parts of the field with authority so there was hope, but now every time I see him he's swinging at the pitch and rolling over and hitting a ground ball to third, or hitting a pop up.

I think we should consider making Matt Holliday, and not a SP, our big FA acquisition next year.

Willingham/Morgan/Holliday with Dunn at first :$$$: :az:

Also, is anyone else encouraged by Garrett Mock's progress as of late?

Here's his line for August:

21 IP, 6 ER, 22 K, 13 BB, 2 HR, 2.57 ERA

He really needs to cut back on the walks, but other than that, he's really coming around.  It's nice to see someone making a case for himself for next year's rotation when we have so many young guys (Balester, Detwiler, Martis) in our system floundering.

Yea, he seems to have adapted well. He's much more reliable than Balester. If not for the motherfreaker behind home plate he probably has a 6 IP 0 ER  game.

And I'm not sure Detwiler is "floundering." He's got a 3.4 ERA in AAA I believe. Not bad for a guy who barely got his feet wet in AA before playing in the majors.

Why not both? It's not like we have a massive payroll. Granted I don't expect it to happen either.

Yeah Mock had great stuff last night, his changeup 0-2 was unhittable. If it wasn't for that phantom foul tip, he would have escaped with no runs and probably pitched into the 6th. I hope we're starting to see the numbers that Mock put up in AAA.

He needs to learn to shake off adversity. Lannan would not totally fall apart after a bogus call. But he's got a spark that was totally missing earlier this season. I think they messed with his head too much. He needs to have a talk with Bergmann, who FINALLY has his head on straight.

i was watching the game @ a bar with no sound ... so what exactly happened no that bullcrap strike 3/non strike 3 call that turned the game around?  it looked like he clearly swung and missed on that.

lol I know Det has been amazing in his last two starts.  I guess he has a different definition of "floundering".
